last week I was diagnosed with two malignant tumors in my back.

Starting tomorrow they will do several tests to see if it has metastasized and what kind of tumors they are. After that they will start the treatment.

I am convinced that I will survive this but I am definitely going to have a hard time.

There will be times when I'll respond slowly or not at all.

Should the need arise I'll ask for help from the community.

I will keep you informed of important developments.

That's not good news.

As someone who has had a cancer scare (melanoma) I can understand the kind of thoughts and worries that you will be having now. Your positive attitude will go a long way in helping you get over this.
Please let this site take second place to your health.

After some more tests it is determined that my tumor is a synovio sarcoma. Only 50 people get this diagnoses in the Netherlands per year. As long as there are no metastases I'll have a chance to survive this but if there are then there is no hope of recovery. I'll hear more next week.

I'm going to get chemo therapy. Six sessions of five days in the hospital. After that surgery to remove what's left and then radiation therapy.

Any computer jock that has a feathered assistant that sits on his head and writes code for you can overcome any challenge, defeat any foe, and come out the winner. You are absolutely a winner and will overcome this challenge just as you have resolved all the issues that the BOINC crowed has thrown at you! You will get well, our friend, for sure.......

Thanks to everyone, in this thread or otherwise, who has wished me well.

I had my first round of chemo last week. Since I'm also in a lot of pain (the tumor presses against nerves in my spine) the doctors decided to take me off pills and give me a morphine pump. Initially they gave me a too high dosis which made me a zombie for a couple of days. They changed the dosis and within a day I recovered from that but then I had to deal with the side effects of the chemo. Yesterday was the first day I wasn't sick from the side effects. Still have a very dry mouth and a rough palate all day round.

Best of luck and good health Willy.

I'm just out of 5 emergency days from the hospital myself. Intestinal problems. I was feeling a bit sorry for myself. Not so much now.

Stay upbeat.

Cheers,
Mike

Just got an interim diagnosis and the tumor is shrinking. I'll have to continue the chemo therapies and after the fifth one there will be more tests to determine what to do next.

Very good news. The treatment is really hard, but you will regain your previous life, I am sure.

A week after my fifth chemo therapy I got very sick. I was rushed to the hospital where I had to stay over a week. I wasn't able to speak, to swallow, my throat hurt very much and I had a fever (at the highest point 39.5C). This all was caused by the chemo and according to the doctors said it was more dangerous than the tumor I have. At that point it was decided that the sixth and last chemo therapy wouldn't go through.

I am now getting radiation therapy. 25 treatments on working days so five weeks, just finished my second week. This seems to be going well, I do not have any meaningful side effects yet.

After the radiation therapy I have to regain my strength for about a month and then I have surgery. The surgery will take four hours. They will open the muscle in my back to remove the remains of the tumor. Because the tumor has also infiltrated a vertebra, a piece of that will also be removed. After the surgery I will have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days to get physical therapy.

There will be some lasting side effects. A numb feeling in my side and I won't be able to pull my right leg all the way up. Still better than the alternative.

Just one problem: the hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID patients and the surgent has warned me that my surgery may be postponed. No idea for how long.
