Hi all: Tanpaku staff seems not to care about its contributers! Many people are complaining that this project is a joke, and a big waste of time - WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS ???

I also have quite a few questions about TANPAKU, which obviously cant be answered sufficiently...

First of all, the credit system is a joke... One of my latest wu's (35min) got zero credits because somebody else successfully finished it after ZERO seconds. (It looks like the first valid result decides about the granted credits).

If you look at the forums, official answers from Project Admins/Developers are quite rare...

I'm not sure about the scientific value of Tanpaku wu's either...

To answer your question: IMO, I dont know if TANPAKU is a waste of time, but so far nobody could convince me from the opposite... I still crunch for them just to see if anything changed with the credit system... So far its still the same...

Medicinal/Biological projects are my favourite, I hope Tanpaku becomes as valuable as WCG or Rosetta, for example... But atm, its still pre-alpha stage, imo...

Nope, the lowest claimed credit decides the granted credits for everyone. That's how validators work by default, unless the project changes it.

The difference here is that other projects don't have 0-second units marked as valid

Thanx for the info!

Then 0-second valid wu's are a joke...

With some project applications, Windows 9x/ME has some problems with the CPU counting. They compute the WUs right but can not measure the WU time correctly, so they report 0 seconds crunching time back.

I have crunched for Tankapu, as the project has started. At the beginning was a lot of feedback and communication with the project admins. But in the autumn last year, there stopped the communication. There is absoultly no feedback now about the science progress or for problems.
For me is this not acceptable and stoped crunching for them.
I think it is a totaly suspect, worthless and senseless project.

If the quorum is "1" (as was the case last time I looked at Tanpaku) after the first valid result the credit will be calculated and used for all later results. "Lowest claimed credit" is only used for a quorum of "2". For higher quora a medium is used.

That's the famous and very known problem of the timer thread under Win9x/ME...
Dotsch explained very well.
Same problem with Simap. Of course since the credits are fixed on the server side, nobody is "annoyed".
