Their forum is in german. Can someone who speaks the lingo please let us know the status on why their stats export? It appears to have stopped.

A German-only forum is not very helpful.

FWIW, I've also noticed that its application still has a way to go. It does not honor the CPU % limit, always taking up 100%. I wish I could let the project know, but they don't seem to care about those beyond their neighborhood...

Well, it's a German forum but you may post there in English of course.
The admin is usually very responsive.

Hello zombie67,

Stats are exported hourly, but BOINCstats does not fetch them:

http://boinc.freehal.org/db_dump_spec.xml

I don't know why; Willy hasn't anwered yet.

Best regards,
Tobias Schulz

I went back thru the Resetting Credit Thread @ the FreeHal Forum and my understanding of the Credit Reset was that the first time everybody got Reset whether you Manipulated something or not mainly because of the Projects goof up's with their Wu Applications being screwed up and or the Validator giving out way to much Credit.

The Second Reset was because some people came right back in the Project after the Reset of Credits with jacked up Benchmarks & tried to run up some big Credits again in short order. So Tobias just Reset them again and thats where the accusation of manipulation came in. He choose his words wrong I think and everybody felt their Credits were Reset because they Manipulated whatever. That wasn't his intentions I don't think but it's the way a lot of people took it.

maybe - just maybe - he is as stupid as he tends to be. but you cant come up with a credit generator like this and expect the cheaters to sit on their hands. and then move out and call everyone a cheater? thats guts...

Well, yeah.... the project admin at FreeHal has annoyed a lot of people, as you can see from the shoutbox here, and the forums there!! I even got banned from posting there because I summed up the contents of the FH@Home forum thread: that instead of bickering about "manipulated credits" he should fist look at his own part in the matter. He became slightly abusive, basically calling me an idiot, so I let off a little steam telling him that I HAD read the entire contents of the thread, making special note to read his comments in pretty bad English and he was to blame for the whole thing. He then deleted my forum posts and blocked me from posting again. I guess he couldn't handle the truth. OK, as with a lot of new projects there are some unethical crunchers who will try to inflate their credit in various ways. It happens all the time. But my point is very simple. Why didn't he start by giving fixed credits for each WU done? That could then have been changed at a later date. No, he got straight in there, with complicated credit calculations, a crappy validator, a crunching system that only Germans could understand and a project that frankly belongs with the Gerasims of this world!! A new project should try to keep things as simple as possible, till all the major bugs have been ironed out, then it should start expanding and developing. I use as an example ( for obvious reasons!! ) the 3x+1 project. Started nice and simple, debugged, fixed the faults then began evolving.... Listen, you don't jump into the deep end of a swimming pool, unless you can swim, right? In the same way, you can't launch a project onto BOINC that gives stupid credits, then after 2 or three weeks, you realize that you're drowning, the codes full of bugs, and take everyone's credit away. First, you go pre-Alpha, to test if the darn thing works, and progress from there.

In conclusion, my main point is this: I will not be accused of lying and cheating by anyone....how could I have cheated, I didn't even crunch the stupid project!! And Tobias....get someone who can speak English to post for you, if you don't wish to be "misunderstood"!!

1st. don't take it personal because he's accusing about everyone. "was störts die deutsche eiche wenn sich ein wildschwein an ihr reibt? !"
2nd. not even i as a german got what this should be.
3rd. you are right - bad idea to go global if you are local minded like that...

Well put, Frank. I DID take it personally when the debate got personal in the posts Tobias deleted, though!!

Being British is hard sometimes....we don't like being kicked in the teeth.

If Tobias is interested, this link is a screenshot of my BOINC Manager crunching a REAL project, that shows REAL times, who's name is self-explanatory and gives a Fixed 100 credits per Work Unit successfully returned. This kind of clarity is what I want from a BOINC project, be it pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta or Production.

So, Tobias, when your head's returned to normal size, you might want to click on this link. I use this project as an example, because I am partially involved with it. You can look at many other GOOD, SOLID projects, and you may learn something. Nobody knows everything, not even you...

Seejay, what do you want to see at a 3 months old project? REAL times? Your credit dreams? Sorry, do you realize that FreeHAL is MUCH more complex than 3x+1@home? Our main focus is to develop FreeHAL (the application).

You want to have that. Well, you can help us seriously or launch your own FreeHAL-based project. But do not annoy me. You won't get a perfect wrapper application from any alpha project which is as complex as FreeHAL. You are not involved with FreeHAL.
