Gridcoin Finance is a research and development project that uses volunteers computing power to perform financial simulations, analysis of the block chain, consolidate humanitarian reports, calculate marketing strategies, perform stock option analysis, harvest business intelligence, and assimilate top level results for the crowdsourced web pages.

My understanding is it is associated with Gridcoin.

Is this project going to be added to Boincstats?

This should be added. I just created my account manually, created my team, added it to one of my machines manually, and it is happily churning.

Thanks

Did you take all four steps as per their advertisment, or did you leave it at the first two (as I did)?
We had one member that went to step three, to his great regret.
It is still very much unclear as to what their application is actually doing and despite their '20 years of experience' they are not very informative about it either if you read behind the mumbo-jumbo.

These (as per http://www.gridcoin.us/):

  1. Setup BOINC
  2. Setup Gridcoin Client
  3. Sync client and acquire Gridcoin
  4. Earn Gridcoin via POS and DPOR

The topic of this thread is http://FINANCE.gridcoin.us/FINANCE, not http://WWW.gridcoin.us. The former seems to be just another BOINC project, even though it is by the same people, not needing any special GridCoin client, acquiring of GridCoins, or earning them. Truth be told, I have totally avoided that whole aspect of GridCoin.

Remains the question: What does the application actually DO?

That's always a fair question...

Me too, but I like to know what I am doing. I'd rather not be part of a bot network mining Gridcoin just for some boinc credits.
So far I'm not convinced by this project.

The Gridcoin team hasn't been very open or descriptive with what they do... The precise "what" and "why" are questions that have been unanswered ever since they first appeared in the BOINC community. Because of that, I've stayed clear of any of their ventures. They certainly seem to be targeting BOINCstats heavily with their advertising recently, it's the only ad I've seen here for at least a week.

In order to be included in BOINCStats, Willy requires that the Project Admin request that it be included when they are ready. That is a fair enough requirement for if we include all new teams as they appear it could possibly be counterproductive to the project as they would be flooded with questions why it is not working properly. At this stage the Project Admin openly stated in their Forum that his main concern is Gridcoin and not Gridcoin Finance. This is evidenced by his lack of response to a lot of questions.

Actually, Willy already added it to the "Sign-up for projects" page, and it now does show up under "Active Projects" and "Status schedulers" lists on the left.

The problem: Under "Sign-up for projects" it looks like "Project down" and under "Status schedulers" it looks like "offline" since the moment he added it to his database. And, therefore trying to create a new account or finding one's existing account from "Sign-up for projects" doesn't work.

Willy: The project seems to be mostly up except for the up/download servers (http://finance.gridcoin.us/finance/server_status.php). What is not responding to your requests that makes it effectively down for BOINCstats?

Thanks!

The scheduler URL as reported by the project is incorrect (http://finance.gridcoin/finance_cgi/cgi, should be http://finance.gridcoin.us/finance_cgi/cgi)

Something you can fix on your side, or do you need to wait until the project admin hears about it, fixes it, which seems like might take a long time with this project, given the track record?
