The BB@H website will be down most of the time until next week. The machine on which it runs is being worked on.

Meanwhile ideas are growing about how to make this into a real project. There is no timing set yet, but we will keep the Boinc community informed as the ideas become more concrete.

What does this project want to do? What are the objectives?

The project is run by people from team boinc.be. We have been pondering the possibilities for an own boinc project for a long time, but the ideas were always put aside because nobody knew what it involved to setup a boinc server. So the first objective of this project was to get acquainted with the boinc server.

Now that this first step was successful, we are discussing ideas for a real project with usable results. Not a mega project that would cost fortunes on hosting, but still something people who are interested in the subject can participate in without feeling they are wasting their resources. It is too early to say what it will be. We'll keep you all posted.

Isn't this the wrong way to start a project?

You have proven that you are able to set up necessary things to get it running, ok.
But now that you are likely to want it keep running, but simply there is no demand - so you ask for ideas, and so on.

But does it make sense? Do you really want the community tantalize your server just for calling a real project your own? Isn't this a bit self-glorifying?

I think the demand for seriously running a project has to come first, the project will then find it's way (which not necessarily has to be BOINC).

@Walter: It was in fact the other way round. The ideas have existed for a long time, but we were unable to follow up on them by lack of understanding the Boinc server.

@bjango @ PovAddict: We have joined the mailing list. We'd be glad to give feedback or support when we can.

I understand very well, if I had the time, I would like to play around with perl-boinc. Not to create a project, just to learn about what's behind.
(Does anybody know where I can get perl-boinc?)

Hi willy, any chance to have bb@h included in boincstats sooner or later? I would like it so much to include my 0.37 credits in my personal and team stats and smash all those No. 1 crunchers down to the dust ;-)))))

The Belgian Beer project and website are up. Jar Jar Binks is back.

@Willi: When are the statistics added? Is there currently a possibility? I'm not a No. 1 cruncher, but I would like to see it on BOINCstats if I have more Belgian Beer credits than XJR-Maniac. Hicks. ;-)))))

Well, I'm kind of opposed to the idea of creating a BOINC project just to see "can I do it?" and then run only test WU's on the project.

As soon as they have a real scientific goal (for example, how many bubbles are there in a decent glass of beer or how many beers make man incapable of walking) I will include the project.
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

Good answer, but should the test include the mixing of beers too, say 2/3 bottles of Stella, 4 pints of Guinness, 2 bottles strong english cider, and some becks to finish.

But some more bottles of test beer would be very much appreciated! *hicks*

Excuse me for correcting you, but there you have an incomplete picture of our intentions. In a first stage we indeed wanted to see if we could bring a server to life. Not as a goal in itself, but to see if it made any sense to continue thinking about the ideas we had for a project. Note that these internal talks date from far before we were spoiled with dozens of projects, and at that time it would have been more than just another new project.

Plans still exist at this moment. But time is still lacking to work them out. A first small attempt might be made using the wrapper in not too far a future. Meanwhile the server has been more than useful in providing assistance and advice in one of the latest projects. So I think I can safely say that this server is more than just something which allows us to say "See, we can do it!"

I understand if you don't show the stats for the moment. Maybe I can just ask you to use the RSS feeds already?

EDIT: PS, if the project still produces test work units, it's mostly by popular demand of a number of participants.

I'm not sure if mine is the project Tutta refers to, but the understanding of BOINC servers which he has acquired as a result of BB@H has made him one of the most productive testers during the alpha phase of APS@Home.

Belgian Beer is down for the count. Guy decided it was not worth it and not necessary. He said he still may use it in the future, but not now.
