A team mate at BOINC@Heidelberg just posted this new project, but as it's mostly written in Russian I don't have any clue what it's all about.

Seems the website isn't finished yet, because several links don't work at the moment.

I wonder if it's really a BOINC project. If it is, they did some MAJOR modifications... All the web-side is ASP (yuck) instead of PHP, so they must have rewritten it all.

I heard that from my team mate, too. Funny thing is that there are already some users with credits, although there are no WUs and the link to "applications" doesn't exist. Hm....

And too bad I can't read anything of their message boards to get a hint of the project's goals.

You might be having an issue with attaching to the site if you use the full link that Cori posted. Try using it without the "default.aspx" and it should work fine:

Not too sure what the project is about - looking into the boards a bit it seems like they are trying to determine an ultimate purpose for the project. The various suggestions I've seen tend to be math-oriented, but I haven't bothered to look too much further into it.

EDIT: But I still don't get it... I can attach in BOINC manager like in any other BOINC based project. And the messages from the project server don't tell me that it's NOT a BOINC project. Now I'm confused...

But this project re-wrote the web code and some more quite from scratch, as it runs on a Windows machine. Also all the backend code (handling workunits) would have to be modified to use MSSQL... Wonder why they didn't just get and learn Linux >.>

Cori: It's not a standard BOINC project as they've significantly modified the code to work under MS (vs Linux). It is still a BOINC project, just not a "straight out of the box" configuration. BOINC clients and stats exports are still supported.

That was my feeling on it as well. In the forums they've even suggested asking Grad students if there's any projects they want to run. I can't tell from the quick scan through I did whether or not they have any funding/scientists/goal in place yet. As far as I can tell they're still working out the bugs with the code in MS. We'll see what happens closer to the middle of May.

Sorry, but they have the same strategy as Belgium Beer, which means they get the same treatment.

no science, no add?

You can hardly say that BURP or Chess (to name two) are doing science.

Better is: No real work, no add. At the moment Gerasim is only a proof-of-concept project.

Well, Gerasim brought out their new app gsm recently.
At the moment they have a lot of work for it, although the WUs are mostly very short, from seconds up to 4 or 5 minutes.
Only problem:
It's unknown what the app really does because there's still no message board...

But they are exporting points, so they should be added to make our total points match other stat sites.

If a project is not doing any real work, just a test app (for example counting to 100), then I don't care if other stats site add the project. If they want to score by adding useless projects then that's their choice.

In my opinion only real projects that do real work should be added to any self-respecting stats site.

Therefor, you will not see the bubbles of Belgium Beer here. And if Gerasism starts doing something useful then they will be added.

Does anyone know what they are doing now? It isn't one of the default test applications. It's something called "gsm 1.10"
