Project is still nominally running but no longer grants credit nor will it for the foreseeable future. Does it have a place here any longer?

Moderator on project said this:

How many times do I have to tell people?
THIS PROJECT IS OVER!

The server is running on it's own, and is only collecting data from existing users.
There's NO STAFF, NO MONEY, NO MAINTENANCE.

I think the project should be retired. No credit is being granted, the work the clients do is not being used at all.

I agree as per my original post. It does not grant credit and this is a stats site after all. I wasn't sure if retirement would somehow affect BAM users still running the project and didn't feel like engaging in a debate over the matter. Some may still run it simply to accrue hours at WUProp but that's about it. Some of the other QCN projects actually do grant credit and would be more worthy of inclusion than this one.

Indeed, no credit is being granted (v. "No New Credits&quot, but there is no indication that the data provided by clients is not used.

That's ok with me, I'm still running it mostly because it seems like a waste not to since they sent me a free accelerator to use with their project a while back. If it gets dropped from BAM, I can just add it back manually until the servers finally crash.

They are on the move:

QCN will be moving in June 2016 to a new (hopefully permanent) home based at the University of Southern California (USC) and supported by IRIS (the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) and the SCEC (Southern California Earthquake Center). There may be unexpected "down time" as the data and web addresses are moved to quakecatcher.net. If all goes well you shouldn't have to change your BOINC program, as the web name server (DNS) should resolve to our new server when it's all setup. If you're not afraid with BOINC, you may wish to (when the time comes) "Detach Project" and then "Attach Project" to http://quakecatcher.net/sensor

There will also be new client programs compiled to reflect our new home and support; and hopefully update any drivers, bug fixes etc.

Link QCN Thread

but no news about credits

They completed their move to University of Southern California

The move to the University of Southern California is complete. Thanks to Stanford and CalTech Earth Sciences for hosting us over the years. QCN is now supported by IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) and the SCEC (Southern California Earthquake Center) based at USC. You may want to "Remove Project" and then re-attach directly to our new BOINC project address http://quakecatcher.net

Would be nice if Willy would change the related project url in bam to their new location.

Updated the URL. No stats exported yet on the new site. Should they start doing so at the usual place BS should pick it up automatically.

Thanks for updating the QCN URL to http://quakecatcher.net --- I just started running credits so the stats should be up again (I just run credits in cron every 5 days) --- quakecatcher.net/stats

I think QCN is gone again, could be time to archive? it's not been exporting stat's for 3months and seems like it's won't be back again:

Carl Christensen:

I'm afraid there is no longer any funding on the project, at least for me, I haven't worked full-time on QCN for awhile and have moved onto commercial computer work. It's a shame - but sometimes happens in academia......

Carl just ran the credit script again I think yesterday or the day before. However, they don't pay him financially nor respectfully. So, he may not continue to help with trivial things like this. However, now looking in the forums it appears that maybe some of the threads have been hidden or removed.

So QCN is dead or not?

Maybe I can take over it on my new servers?

Well, if you talk to Carl, he would set one up if you paid him. I have a feeling he still has the keys to the "sister sites" that haven't been utilized for a few years. The real quest though is who will look at the research being done?...

Willy, please retire this project. Admins do not give updates anymore for quite some time. Points got screwed up September 2017 and were never fixed as promised. No new points have been awarded since April. Work still goes out, but nothing is getting credited or fixed.

And just like that
QCN servers will be going down at around 9 am PST on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. This is necessary to upgrade the entire system and test the new configuration. It is currently impossible to say just how long this downtime will last, though we will, of course, try to make it as brief as is possible.

Expect at least 8 hours of downtime, possibly more. Servers must be moved physically and reconfigured extensively. (This is not minor maintenance.)

We apologize for the inconvenience, and for the short notice. We were not given a scheduled time for this changeover until today.

However, it could still be a very long time before this project is actually living again.

If they refuse to validate work and export credits, it matters little (especially to a stats site) where the physical location of the server is.
