I'm so dischuffed with CELS

The old project was hit and miss and now I can't even open the homepage to get a status update

Have they gone out of business?

Or are they just not talking to the UK?

They were humming along nicely with a steady (but small) flow of WUs until 2/20, when they dropped off the planet. I'd guess there's either a server or personnel issue, but either way the communication from the admin certainly sucks since the outage!

One of my completed Cels WUs was somehow able to upload last night (although the project is down again). Hopefully at least this means they're alive over there.

Are you sure that it uploaded or did BOINC delete it because of too many tries. (You could check this in the boinc-log). The deletion happened to me with still pending rieselsieve uploads when they shut down the project.

Hmmm...where is the boinc-log stored?

For Windows: There should be a file stdoutdae.txt in the data directory, if you have one, or in the main boinc directory (where all the xml-files are)
For Linux: The file where you redirected the console output (stdout) to.

Or in the "Messages" tab of the boincmanager

If i remember correctly there should be a message with something like "giving up" after the upload try in the case when BOINC deletes the upload and changes the status of the WU from "uploading" to "ready to report"

Ah, I see it now. Yep, that's exactly what happened. Is there a way to turn that off or extend the number of tries before it kills the WU?

Sorry can't help you there. As far as i know the only option is to suspend networking, which is not really an option if you are running multiple projects.
You could ask the question on the boinc boards.

Either way I've sodded CELs off

If they can't be bothered to participate in BOINC, then I can't be bothered with their hit-and-miss attitude

Shame as Cancer Research is an important humanitarian project

I won't be restarting any new CELs tasks even if they do decide to show their faces again.

Cowboys from Texas, what can you say?

Cowboys from Texas went to Texas A&M.

. . . the only people who go to TU are those who can't get into A&M.
