I thought I would post about my Grandson here in the Forum so it don't dominate the Shout Box or mess up another Thread. The good News is that he hasn't lost a leg yet and probably won't if all goes well for him. The bad news is that he has lost his Right Foot, it's gone just above the Ankle. Also he has to make a decision soon whether to have his Left Foot taken off too or not as it is shattered beyond any future use.

The Doctors can save the remaining foot but from what they are saying it won't be of any use to him and he would be able to lead a better life if he just had it taken off too. It's a hell of a decision to have to make & I hope he makes the right one, I think he will as he seems to be in good spirits and accepting what has happened to him as best as can be expected of him.

Other than that he looks okay outside a few other superficial scratches from the Blast he took. He was telling us just 2 weeks before this Blast that injured him that the Vehicle he was riding in took a Mine to the front end of the Vehicle that lifted the whole truck up off the ground, but nobody got hurt in that one.

We got to visit with him 3 times while we were down in DC for the little time we were there. We arrived late Wednesday night and seen him 2 times the next day & then Friday we drove back into DC just to see him again before we left. Two of his 2 Uncles & 1 Cousin went down and seen him Yesterday.

We'll probably go down again around Thanksgiving if not before I'm thinking & then at Christmas again, at least that's what I'm planning on now if he doesn't take a turn for the worse ... Steve

So glad to hear, was getting worried. Hopefully he pulls through okay. They've made great advancements in prostheses lately.

Thank you for the update.

I'm really glad thar he's alive and (more or less) well. I hope and wish that he'll stay on the good path!

This decision is really hard, but he is alive. I can still remember my thoughts when I almost lost my left arm, this is really hard!
But he's still alive. For sure, this means some limitations, but when he's getting used to them, life can shine again. This is the most important thing.

All the best to him!

They say bad things happen in Three's, I've experienced that Phenomenon a few times in my Lifetime already and seem to be going thru it again. As you know my Grandson has lost his Left Foot already, well Yesterday we Buried his other Grandfather. He has been in the Hospital for 2 Months already and seemed to Die once he knew his & my Grandson was still alive & going to make it.

My Grandson also has made the Decision to have his other foot taken off & they were preparing him for Surgery to do it but had to delay it for now. He's starting to run a Fever from the Leg being infected I think was the reason. I hope & pray they get it under control & he doesn't lose more than just another foot ...

The "Three's Phenomenon" is something I can identify with, too. I'm sorry to hear it's happening to you.

I encourage you to keep the prayers going. I am seeing the results of that in a firend who had a kidney removed on Tuesday, and the doctor is saying it must be a miracle the way she's recovering. I will keep my prayers going for you and the family, and I hope everyone else will, too.

Poorboy, Im sure the doctors will get the temperature under control soon, and allow the"healing process" to continue.

Everyone here at Boinc @ Australia sends their best wishes and prayers for your Grandsons' speedy recovery.

Just a short Update here, my Grandson did have his remaining foot taken off Thursday. As sad as it seems it was the right thing for him to do as the foot was never going to be of any use to him anyway. His recovery should be of a shorter duration now, and it will be easier to fit the Prostheses to him too with both feet gone .... Steve

Steve,

my best wishes go out to your grandson & your whole family!
May his recovery proceed in the best possible way!

Yet it feels so terribly wrong that he was ever forced to come to this decision...
I think your grandson really must have great inner strength because to me it seems he copes with his situation with a lot of courage.

Again, all the best to him & your family!
Greetings from Cori

He was able to leave Walter Reed Hospital late last year, in the end he lost both feet. 1 foot was savable but it would have been of no use to him & he would have had to use a Crutch the rest of his life if he kept it. So he made the decision to to have it taken off too so he could have a Prosthesis put on both legs.

He's out of the Service now and living in Colorado with his Fiancee ...

Thanks for asking about him ...

Though my words may seem minuscule at best, I am thankful for his service. The price he paid may have been less than others,it was still a dear price paid.

My thoughts, prayers, and eternal gratitude to your grandson.

God bless him.
