HI,

I created (and activated) my account.

As I already have some projects I tried to use the Project Sign Up page page to get my running projects.
But I tells me for all of them wrong password (I assume because they have all a different password).

So I tried to connect one of my clients with some projects.

It seem there is a valid connection, because I get some repleys.
When actual tring to login to bam it sends this request:
<acct_mgr_request>
<name>achims311</name>
<password_hash>xxx</password_hash>
<host_cpid>9a2883a668500c32aae9a8f7c65fa4d9</host_cpid>
<domain_name>achim.fra.ib.commerzbank.com</domain_name>
<client_version>5.4.3</client_version>
<run_mode>always</run_mode>
<prefs_mod_time>1144755791</prefs_mod_time>
<prefs_source_project>http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/</prefs_source_project>
<project>
<url>http://lhcathome.cern.ch/</url>
<project_name>LHC@home</project_name>
<suspended_via_gui>0</suspended_via_gui>
<account_key>xxx</account_key>
<hostid>98365</hostid>
</project>
<project>
......

But I get only the following back:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
<acct_mgr_reply>
<error>User not found</error>
</acct_mgr_reply>

I know it is not the lasted Client Version, but it is the latest Debian version in testing.

I checked the debug data (server stores all client requests to BAM) and your password used for the client is not identical to the one used in BAM. This is weird as BAM doesn't allow you to change your password at the moment.

Please detach and reattach the client to BAM. Post here when you did so, and I'll recheck the debug data.

Please detach

Sorry, but I'm not attached

and reattach the client to BAM. Post here when you did so, and I'll recheck the debug data.

Done.

I did a copy paste from the registration confirmation mail.
(Desktop is WinXP but I use cygwin X Server to display the boincmngr, maybe here comes as well a problem with all these non standard characters in my password.)

I'm confused. Big time. First this:

I know it is not the lasted Client Version, but it is the latest Debian version in testing.

Desktop is WinXP

So, what is it?

Then this:

I did a copy paste from the registration confirmation mail.

What did you copy and to where?

And lastly:

Sorry, but I'm not attached

Then how did your client connect BAM?

I am able to get my clients to connect just fine to bam. I am using 5.4.3 or above (mostly 5.4.9). I have only done 3 hosts at this time, do to the beta nature of bam, but I can easly add 15 or so more when things seem to smooth out, or if you want the additional data.

I have noticed, however, that neither World Comunity Grid or RALPH are in the selection to join/lookup in. Is this do to their server configurations? Also, is there any way to automaticly join to projects when they come out (orbit@home, stardust@home) or for projects that reallow account creations (chess, malaria)?

One other thing I have had a problem with is that at times I cant update my hosts preferences (what projects to run on that comp). I select what I want, then click "set", yet when the screen refreshes it is back to what it was before., and an update on the client comp yelds no changes.

P.S., I have hit the 1mil mark!

WCG works in a very different way and does not support BAM in any way (at the moment). RALPH will be added very soon.

I will create a feature were you can select a project, and BAM will try to sign you up on regular intervals.

I may need more details on this (preferably new topic) but it sounds like a synchronisation problem between the BAM server and the WWW server.

I'm confused. Big time. First this:
So, what is it?

My client is a Debian linux using testing. This means I use 5.4.3 linux version.
The boinc manager is as well running under linux, but I'm not sitting in front of it, but in front of a Windows XP box.
So the linux boinc manager gui is showed on a windows XP desktop (using cygwin X Server).

Then this:
What did you copy and to where?

I used the confirmation mail I get from bam with all the account details including user name and pasword to copy the user name and the password into the wizard to attach to BAM.

And lastly:
Then how did your client connect BAM?

I would say it did not (successfully) conect till now.
This is exactly the problem.
If it helps here is the log file:
2006-05-11 17:28:27 [---] Fetching configuration file from http://bam.boincstats.com/get_project_config.php
2006-05-11 17:29:31 [---] Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
2006-05-11 17:29:35 [---] Account manager error: 0 User not found

reason for telling you all these details is:
As I'm using special charaters in my password I'm not sure if the password is corectly translated in all places
(Is the fnction password to password_hash behaving everywhere the same for special characters.) Is there a easy way to do the translation manually so I can check the generated request?

Less confused now

The special characters in your password were indeed causing the problem. I fixed it (at least, it now enumarates your client password hash correct) and you should now be able to connect a host to BAM and also be able to find your project accounts.

Read further on the Stardust site. They're trying to get the BOINC users to look at it, but it isn't a BOINC project. It involves downloading image files and doing manual inspections. They're trying to ride BOINC's coattails is all.

From the Stardust FAQ page:

Q. How does Stardust@home work?
A. Using an automatic optical microscope, Stardust@home scientists are creating a digital "movie" of every tiny section of the aerogel containing the interstellar dust particles. Altogether, 1.6 million movies will be needed to cover the entire 1,000 square centimeter surface of the aerogel collector! The movies will be stored in a database at the Space Science Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, and will be sent out electronically to Stardust@home participants around the world.

Using a "virtual microscope," each participant will scan one movie at a time to determine whether it shows the impact of an interstellar dust particle. The results will then be sent back to Stardust@home headquarters in Berkeley and a new movie will be made available for scanning by the participant.

Each movie will be sent to at least four different users, who will scan and evaluate it independently. If a majority of scanners suspect the movie shows an embedded particle, the movie will be scrutinized further by trained scientists, and the location in the aerogel collector will be examined.

Yes got one client connected, and one not (due to wrong version (5.3.12).
Thank you very much.

But now I got a problem loggin into bam itself.
But it might be due to the next computer.....

Hmmm, tested that, but I don't have special chars in my PW (it's just 20 chars long). Will look into it some more.

I was able to log in before you changed the client logic.

and the client can still connect

Solved this now.

The problem was that your password hash was still based on the incorrect password.

You can login now.
