I've also noticed this today.
Also, I just tried to stop using BAM, and reconnecting to it, but it times out and says try later.

Restart your Computer and Try Again.

Restarted boinc-client service on that machine, and was able to reconnect to BAM. Did this remove the message for you, bcavnaugh?
I will look later when I get home from work. I can see the message isn't so frequent now in my desktop here, in the log last message was last night here (about 9 hours ago).
Wil try restarting the services on the other pc's later also.

Not on all my Hosts.
We will just have to wait it out.

I agree. At least one of my hosts shows no problem:

21/08/2018 5:59:55 PM | | Account manager contact succeeded

But most of my hosts show this for the past few days:

BOINC Manager Event Log wrote:

8/21/2018 5:27:24 PM | BOINCstatsBAM! | Message from account manager: Start tag expected, '<' not found.

I tried detaching from BAM! with one of these hosts and after trying to re-attach to BAM! the dialog box says all good but the event log shows the not found message and under the Tools menu I see "Use account manager" instead of "Synchronize with BOINCstatsBAM!"

It means that the request that your host sends to BAM! contains incorrect XML. It has happened before with some client versions, especially on Linux if I remember correctly.

Yes. I downgraded to 7.6.21 on the 7.12.1 host that could not attach and now BAM! can communicate properly with no missing tag reports.
The problem seems to be with 7.12.1.
But only some 7.12.1 hosts and only in the last few days. Maybe a server side code change?
Thanks for pointing us in the right direction Willy.

There was no more space left on the drive of the webserver. After some cleanup the errors decreased.

Yes again. I no longer see the tag errors on the few 7.12.1 hosts that I've just synced.
