BAM ID: 123 ( easy to remember) cpid=8f3058b9437a14c91dc2adc9cf5b3c78

After I update my Username from Tank_Master to [SETI.USA]Tank_Master, my host cannot connect, erring with "unknown user"

10/5/2006 6:49:23 PM||Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
10/5/2006 6:49:24 PM||Account manager error: 0 User not found!

I have waited up to 4 hours and my hosts still did not connect. Most of my hosts are using BOINC 5.6.4. When I change my username back to the way it was, my hosts can again connect. The changed name does propagate to the projects fine.

Looking through your "BAM updates" list, I see a reference to this and this it is fixed, but this dose not seem to be the case. Is it possible there is something funky with my account because it was created during the beta faze? (Before the BAM and BOINCStats IDs were merged)

Try detaching from BAM on your client, and attaching again with new login. Or close BOINC and edit acct_mgr_login.xml to have your new username, but as in any time you edit a file there, you're taking a chance...

By the way, how lucky to get such account number!

That would probably work, but I do not have access to all of my comps, and even if I did, I have over 50 of them now... so that would be a lot of work. Still, a good thing to point out. Thx

Another way: change your username back Username on BAM is the main login data, you wouldn't change your email account username all the time since address would change too!

This is a know problem. I have suggested a change to the client to prevent this and it is accepted by the dev team. It wil most probably be included in the next revision of the client (thus not in 5.6.x).

I found a work-a-round. I changed my name like before to [SETI.USA]Tank_Master. But this time I then went to the "BAM Settings" area and unchecked the box there so that it stoped communicating. Then I changed my name back, and after that, reenabled BAM communication. All my previous settings remained, but all the projects got updeated with my new name. My hosts can also still connect.

This seems to do what I wanted to do, to change my name in all my projects.

i have the same problem but your work-around doesn't work for me. i wonder - what would happen if i just deleted my bam account and created a new one with the new user name?

Your hosts still wouldn't connect, because they still would have the old username/password.

that makes sense but - what if you first detached all the host from bam through the boinc manager, deleted them from your bam account, and then deleted the account. after that - then create a new account....... it seems like that would work?

Then one by one reattach all hosts to new BAM account. Yep, that would work.

Well, it's kind of foolish to create a new account then, not?

If you go through all the trouble to connect the hosts to the new account, then why not simply reconnect them to the old account with the new credentials??

So, basicly, what you should do is:
1: detach from BAM!
2: attach host to BAM! with new credentials.

BTW: client versions from 5.7.0 and higher have this problem fixed.

so what your saying is detach the hosts - change the user name - and then re-attach the hosts? so creating a new account isn't necessary?

i'm using 5.4.11 since that's the latest recommended version that i'm aware of.

1 more problem (i think). both the old and new user name is showing up in the "My Detailed Stats". The individual project page shows the new user name - not the BoincStats projects pages but my account on the projects web sites. What did I miss?

probably because that project hasn't updated through bam.

probably because that project hasn't updated through bam.

Or because last nanohive update was 6 days ago. Check on Nano-Hive website if name was changed.
