Problem: On a project such as Riesel Sieve, where the "Run Test Applications" function is enabled on the Project Preferences page, making a change to project preferences in BAM (such as change in resource share for the particular project) also resets the "Run Test Applicatons" selection to "OFF".

Steps to reproduce:

(1) go to project page and select (turn on) "Run Test Applications" option.
(2) update BOINC client from project server.
(3) go to BAM, and change resource share for project.
(4) update BOINC client from BAM.
(5) check project server - "Run Test Applications" is deselected (turned off).

Only apparent way to turn back on os to return to project preferences page and select (turn back on) "Run Test Applications" option, then update BOINC client from project server instead of BAM.

Tried it a couple of times, and it seems to be consistent behavior.

Since this setting isn't available within BAM, shouldn't it actually be left alone rather than being reset?

Tried FAQ and Forum Search, but didn't find any reference to this one.

Thanks,

BAM sets the settings via a big XML block, not one by one. So it overwrites *everything*.

Solution would be to have the option on BAM too.

Bummer - but that explains the problem.

Yes, that would work admirably. Think it might happen? I'm pretty new to using BAM, so not too familiar with whether or not such things tend to get fixed.

As for overwriting everything - I have noticed that BAM actually doesn't appear to overwrite venue settings on various projects, but perhaps there's a different mechanism involved with that, too.

It will happen as soon as this setting is accepted by the BOINC server software.

Thanks - will just have to remember to be careful to reset manually until then.

Are there any known changings with using Test Applications in some projects?

I just learned that this bug was fixed a couple months ago:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/changeset/13463

The projects need to upgrade and use current PHP.

Actually, it's not to stop spam. It's to avoid scaring crunchers. Imagine non-techie newbies going to Trac and getting lost in changesets and source code... At least that's what David has said.
