I've noticed that lately some projects end up being reattached after the client detaches when it's done with any pending WU.

Here's the scenario that I have: a system is attached to CAS, but through BAM I instruct the system to detach when it's done with the project WUs. The system contacts BAM and when it finishes CAS' WUs and after communicating with the project, it detaches from CAS. The next time that the system contacts BAM, it attaches to CAS again and the project status is not "will detach when done".

Please, advise.

I am having a similar problem. This is happening specifically with primaboinca.

I check NNW and Detach when complete. The setting does not ever get communicated to the client, even after a successful manual update with BAM.

So then I try unchecking all three columns, willing to lose tasks that are partially complete. Again a successful manual update. Still will not detach.

Next I "stop using account manager", manually detach directly from the client, then reattach to BAM. Project reattaches and starts getting work.

The only thing I can do for now it so just set it to NNW at each client.

Can't reproduce this:

Step 1: Attach BURP
Set BURP to attach in BAM!, then sync with BAM! in BOINC manager.

acct_mgr_reply.xml contents (BURP part):
 <account>
<url>http://burp.renderfarming.net/</url>
<url_signature>
some code
</url_signature>
<authenticator>dough</authenticator>
</account>

BOINC manager log (BURP part):
14-08-2010 10:25:04 http://burp.renderfarming.net/ Master file download succeeded
14-08-2010 10:25:09 http://burp.renderfarming.net/ Sending scheduler request: Project initialization.
14-08-2010 10:25:09 http://burp.renderfarming.net/ Requesting new tasks
14-08-2010 10:25:10 http://burp.renderfarming.net/ Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks

Step 2: Set BURP to NNW:
Set BURP to NNW in BAM!, then sync with BAM! in BOINC manager.

acct_mgr_reply.xml contents (BURP part):
  <url>http://burp.renderfarming.net/</url>
<url_signature>
some code
</url_signature>
<update>1</update>
<dont_request_more_work>1</dont_request_more_work>
<detach_when_done>1</detach_when_done>
<authenticator>more dough</authenticator>
</account>

BOINC manager log (BURP part):
14-08-2010 10:26:07 http://burp.renderfarming.net/ Resetting project
14-08-2010 10:26:07 http://burp.renderfarming.net/ Detaching from project

Step 3 Another sync with BAM!:
Just another sync with BAM! in BOINC manager to see what happens.
No entry in acct_mgr_reply.xml, nothing in BOINC manager log.

Step 4 One more sync with BAM!:
One more sync with BAM! in BOINC manager to be absolutely sure.
No entry in acct_mgr_reply.xml, nothing in BOINC manager log.

Tested with BM 6.10.58.

Please follow the same procedure and post the acct_mgr_reply.xml and BOINC manager parts that are relevant, and include your BM version.

OK. At first, a sync the host with BAM:

 <account>
<url>http://casathome.ihep.ac.cn/</url>
<url_signature>...</url_signature>
<detach/>
<detach>1</detach>
<authenticator>...</authenticator>
</account>

I find it strange that even though the host is not attached to CAS on BAM, it still gets a reply from BAM with an entry for it and for other projects recently detached. Looking at the host projects in BAM, I see that CAS and other projects still figure as "detaching", even though the client has detached from them days ago and after multiple syncs with BAM.

Could it be because I initially attached to these projects before they were available via BAM?

I don't know what to make of this...

I attached this host to CAS using BAM. After the host got a WU, I set CAS for delayed detach on BAM.

The host has just finished the said WU and I forced the client to upload the WU, after which the client detached from CAS. Then, I forced the client to synchronize with BAM, after which CAS was attached again!

Here's what I see in the BAM reply:

Code:
<account>
<url>http://casathome.ihep.ac.cn/</url>
<url_signature>
...
.
</url_signature>
<authenticator>...</authenticator>
</account>

Why is BAM instructing the client to attach? Please, advise.

I wonder if this new piece of information is related or helpful about this issue.

I just added a new host and one can see a few projects whose status is "detaching". Well, as a new host, I have never attached them to these projects, so why do they have this status?

Please advise.

same problem with CAS, i want to detach all my hosts but after the reset, it re-attach
in bam, i have check the 3 items (nnw, a, dd)
09/11/2010 19:13:06 CAS@home Resetting project
09/11/2010 19:13:07 CAS@home Detaching from project
09/11/2010 19:52:58 Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
09/11/2010 19:53:18 Account manager: BAM! User-ID: 26471
09/11/2010 19:53:18 Account manager: BAM! Host-ID: 122406
09/11/2010 19:53:18 Account manager: Number of BAM! connections: 17098
09/11/2010 19:53:18 Account manager contact succeeded
09/11/2010 19:53:18 Attaching to http://casathome.ihep.ac.cn/
09/11/2010 19:53:41 CAS@home Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks

after that, only the attach item is checked, not nnw and dd
so after the detach and the new bam contact, the attach item isn't unchecked by the program !

on another host, when the 3 boxes are checked and the CAS project is detached, i force a bam contact
then, the 3 boxes are always checked on bam's host page but they would be unchecked in a normal operation
so the project re-attach but i don't want !
can you fix it ?

Yep. Still having the problem. Twice over the bast 24 hours. I set them to detach. They detach. I look back in a couple hours later, and they are all attached again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I have only ever had one host attached (and still is) to CAS, but my host list shows EVERY other host as detaching from a project (CAS) they have never ever been attached to

I just ignore it along with all the other "peculiarities" that BAM provides me with
