I know this has been addressed recently, and I also am having an error when trying to connect to boincstats from one of my hosts:

I'll have a look at it, but do yourself a favour, edit your post and remove all the account keys.

Fixed that for you.

Now for the problem, if you look at this piece:
Code:
<venue name="home">
<run_gpu_if_user_active>0</run_gpu_if_user_active>
<idle_time_to_run>3.0</idle_time_to_run>
<suspend_if_no_recent_input>0.0</suspend_if_no_recent_input>
<suspend_cpu_usage>0.0</suspend_cpu_usage>
<cpu_scheduling_period_minutes>120</cpu_scheduling_period_minutes>
<max_cpus>2</max_cpus>
<max_ncpus_pct>100.0</max_ncpus_pct>
<cpu_usage_limit>90.0</cpu_usage_limit>
<disk_max_used_gb>10.0</disk_max_used_gb>
<disk_min_free_gb>1.0</disk_min_free_gb>
<disk_max_used_pct>50.0</disk_max_used_pct>
<disk_interval>60.0</disk_interval>
<vm_max_used_pct>75.0</vm_max_used_pct>
<ram_max_used_busy_pct>50.0</ram_max_used_busy_pct>
<ram_max_used_idle_pct>90.0</ram_max_used_idle_pct>
<work_buf_min_days>0.1</work_buf_min_days>
<work_buf_additional_days>3.5</work_buf_additional_days>
<max_bytes_sec_down>0.0</max_bytes_sec_down>
<max_bytes_sec_up>0.0</max_bytes_sec_up>
<daily_xfer_limit_mb>0.0</daily_xfer_limit_mb>
<daily_xfer_period_days>0</daily_xfer_period_days>
<dont_verify_images>0</dont_verify_images>
<end_hour>0</end_hour>
<net_end_hour>0</net_end_hour>
<net_start_hour>0</net_start_hour>
<start_hour>0</start_hour>

It should end with </venue> but it doesn't. Please check your acct_mgr_reply.xml to see if it's alright there. If in doubt, post the contents here, but remove all account keys.

Edit: those prefs are coming from WCG, you may be able to fix it by updating the prefs (at any project), then update your project in the hosts' manager, then resync with BAM!.

The problem with the missing </venue> tag is present at all projects. I reported this as a bug to the BOINC devs.

I tried to manually edit acct_mgr_request.xml to add </venue> after the WCG preferences where it was missing... but that didn't work and the file seemed to keep reverting or being over-witten with the version that was missing the tag.

Updating prefs at a project per your recommendation did fix it though.

Ok, I'm back to having this problem again. With 2 computers. Going to a project and updating prefs doesn't work this time. Does this affect anything important or is it just a nuisance?

Your host won't be able to (effectively) communicate with BAM!, it won't get instructions.

Some BAM! functions seem to be working. I can update project resources and connect computers. Is there another way to fix this since updating preferences at a project doesn't seem to help?

Everything seemed fine until I added a computer recently. Now I have two computers that return this error and one that can communicate with BAM!

I haven't tried disconnecting from BAM! and reconnecting... is that recommended?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks [BOINCstats] Willy. I'm just as lost as I was before. I don't understand any of this and don't understand some of the requested info. I just use this to keep track of my stats. I'll just suck it up and hope that it resolves itself eventually.

or the way I fixed this was to make sure I was not attached to bam, detatch(remove) WCG from my computer, attach to bam, and used bam to attach back to WCG. but that only works if it's WCG that is causing the problem.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a identifiable error in the BOINC server code which produces this XML error.

Therefor I made a "fix" in the BAM! XML parser which tries to correct this error. This does NOT solve the real problem, it just masks one of the symptoms.

The problem with the missing </venue> tag should now be solved although I can't guarantee that my XML hacking will always work.

I tried again and two of my three connected computers are ok, but one still returns the error. This is the way it's been for some time now.

you might try this on the computer your still having problems with:
edit acct_mgr_request.xml
and delete everything from <venue> to </venue> (if it is there, or to the point where it would have been, could be to the end of the file)
save
and try again to see if you get the same error.
I had to do this once

<edit>
a 2nd place you might look at is the global_prefs.xml file and see if <venue> is there also
if so you might have to delete it there also.
</edit>

Hi Willy, I'm gonna roll up my sleeves on this one today and keep some detailed notes and let you know what happens.

First, I'm running Linux if that makes any difference.

One odd thing I noticed when I was attempting to edit acct_mgr_request.xml and ended up running it, I got this error:

XML Parsing Error: mismatched tag. Expected: </venue>.
Location: file:///var/lib/boinc-client/acct_mgr_request.xml
Line Number 237, Column 3:</global_preferences>
--^

As you've already noted, there is a missing </venue> tag at the end of the WCG preferences. I tried to manually edit this file and put that tag in, but of course as soon as I synchronize the file is edited and the tag is missing again.

I have two venues listed for WCG:

<venue name="home">
<venue name="work">

The "work" venue is the last one listed and is missing the </venue> tag. I'm not sure if that's a problem with the work venue... or just because it's the last one in the sequence. I'm going to log into my WCG account and take a look.

Ok... it's FIXED!

I have been using the default profile anyway so I deleted the "home" and "work" profiles at WCG. Then I made a little change to the resource share so I could see the change on the project manager. I updated the project via BOINC project manager, then synchronized with BAM!

It's happy now. My guess is that WCG doesn't write the XML for the "work" venue properly so if that's being used there will be a glitch. Or, maybe if you have more than one profile it just botches up writing the tag for the last one in line.

Why this only affected one computer, I don't know. I hope this helps.

take a look at the 2 xml files on the 2 computers that did not have problem. you might find that they don't have WCG in them, maybe yes, maybe no.
and yes it's the last venue that always gets messed up. if you have only 1 or all 3 the last </venue> is not there.

They all run WCG, but the one that had the issues is my "original" cruncher so maybe that host was carrying around some junk from previous profiles settings at WCG. It all must be happening on the WCG end though since I wiped the HD a little over two months ago when I installed Linux.

I examined the .xml on one of the other computers and they don't even list any venues for WCG. It must all go back to what profiles I have set up for different computers. I only intended to have one profile for them all, but WCG has a lot of extra stuff when it comes to setting up profiles so who knows what I did there.
