I recently sufferred HDD failure on two towers at home. I was able to replace the HDD and reinstall Window$ and 150+ security updates last night, reinstalled the BOINC client before bed, and I'm now trying to merge duplicate hosts. BOINCstats and World Community Grid seem to be the only two places where I can't do that.

Willy, should you ever get the chance, could you add a way to merge hosts in the "Host list" portion of the "My BAM menu"?

Merging hosts in BAM! is not really useful. No credit to merge or so.

Just delete the old host.

Questions about the deleting of old hosts.

**Do the credits stay with the user or are they gone?
Reason I ask that is because I was trying to clean up duplicate hosts on the projects and I ended up deleting some with credits and I took a -9k credit hit. 9k is a lot but in order to clean up the list I was willing to lose some credits.

**What if we no longer have access to an old host that has been duplicated in the stats via multiable projects? Otherwords, one project's credits are on an old CPID while another project's credits are on a newer CPID for the same host? Is there a way to get them sync'd back up?

This thread has not been answered either.

Thanks,

Credits always stay with you, no matter how many hosts you delete or merge (no, BAM! doesn't allow merging).

Old hosts will probably never line up again, but again this doesn't matter for the users total credit.

So, to be absolutely clear:
A user never looses credit in a project, no matter what is happening, unless an admin of the project takes it away.

OK.

Since we are in the suggestions forum and I did kinda mention this in the BAM! General forum.

Is there a way to sync the CPID on hosts that have 0 average credit?

As I'm typing this I think I am starting to understand a little. If BS merges/syncs a host with and existing host then the next daily update from the projects would recreate the old host again. Correct?

If so, then as far as the Users host stats list goes; it's junk. Because you can never merge all the same pc's together in order for a proper stats list.

Thanks Willy

Correct again. That's why BS and the colleague stats pages are now deciding whether to show inactive hosts or not.

Thanks Willy, I vote to not show inactive hosts.

If this happens then will all the inactive users drop off the list too? If so, then that will take care of cleaning up the database and make the databse a little quicker.

You have a stats site then??

Well, not if I can help it. It was suggested by someone (who shall remain anonymous (no, NOT me)) to do this, but he forgot that some users move on to other projects, but don't want to lose their credit in the 'old' projects.

Most of my colleagues agree that inactive users should remain in the stats, we are not in 100% agreement on the host thing yet.

Maybe some new options for the BOINCstats settings?
Something like:
- show hosts which were active at least x months (where x defaults zero)
- show users which were active at least x months (where x defaults zero)
Or should i copy/past this post to the Comments and suggestions
