Hello,

I am relatively new in the number crunching game, and for the most part all is well and logical... I do understand the basics of resource utilization (now), as well as settings for individual projects.

However, my problem arrises in understanding what device has priority, or what is the priority order for setting system values???

Example: You can set preferences such as resource utilization in the following locations:

  1. Local (in BOINC Manager).
  2. BAM! in <My Projects>.
  3. BAM! in <Group list> if you have grouped projects to hosts.
  4. BAM! in <Work Preferences> for each location/designation desired.
  5. In each individual project via their site, and from here you can adjust in default/general preferences.
  6. In each individual project via their site, and from here you can adjust in each individual work preference.

I do not like to micro-manage each project, if I do not have to. I would like to use the group ability in BAM! to control these basic settings (Resource utilization, CPU usage, GPU usage, no new work, suspend job and etc) as BAM! appears to have been designed. Is this even possible?

Currently, I have attempted changing different values, set BOINC to checkin with BAM! and update my projects - and the only changes that seem to take place are those made in the individual project's site configuration. Changes made to the group settings in BAM! are either not propogated out or are superceded by 'something'!?

There must be an order of priority that takes place for these settings. With that information, I could work with what I have.

Any insight to this matter would be greatly appretiated.

Thank you - Raubhautz*

The most important fact for you to consider is that the local preferences override all global (online) ones. So, if you want to use either the BAM! preferences or the (global) ones of the individual projects, you'll have to clear the local preferences on each of your hosts or delete the global_prefs_override.xml file.

Ok - Thank you for the name of that over-ride file. I'll tinker with it a little and see what success I come up with.
