I just recently needed to change my user id and password at BOINCStats and all of my projects. Now, I see that most of my credits have disappeared (down from 37,000,000 to 7,000,000).

How do I get this fixed?

Changing your username shakes things up a bit, give it a couple of days and everything should settle.

Thanks, It has been over a week. I checked several projects, it seems all those missing have a single new CPID.

If they're projects that you no longer have a host attached to, you'll have to temporarily attach a host to them--but you won't actually have to complete any work, just get the CPID to update and line up with your current projects. If they are projects that have been marked as "retired" at BOINCstats, you can try the "Sync retired projects" function.

Thanks for your help. I am now in any position to attach to any projects. I just do not understand why some projects' stats came through fine and others did not.

I must tell you also, I was dismayed to see that with only 7.7 million credits showing for me I am still in the 99th percentile for all of BOINC for all time.

That's just the way BOINC projects deal with the CPID, not exactly the best system but it's been around for a while.

I got it all done except for World Community Grid.
Thanks.

Now, another problem. I have lost control of my signature. I have tried several times to fix it. I find the page on which to edit, I put in a new copy of the BOINCStats graphic URL, I re-do all of the blog links I use and , but I cannot find a save button and nothing changes. Any help?

Now I need to know how to do a banner for the BOINCStats graphic so that it all shows.

Maybe this should be under suggestions, but since I just went through this I will make my comment here.

Regardless of how long the email address/password has been the identifier, there is a much better unique item which could, and, I believe, should be used. That is the CPID itself. That would stop all of the problems created by the email thing. People change email address for one reason or another all the time. It is silly that an email address should be used for anything except communication.

AGREE 100%. A users MASTER CPID should be created just ONCE and NEVER CHANGE despite how many times a person changes email or "user name". Only problem I see with this is there is NO CENTRAL PROJECT or web site that holds ALL user CPID's in a database.

Actually, there is at least one project which could have all users in a central database.

However, for this to work all users should start (create their first account) at this project, not at one of the work-projects. Also, the work-projects should use this project for any changes made to a users' account.
There is an issue as well: if the central project is down nobody can create or change an account.

It's quite complex and I don't think it will ever materialize.

Have you ever heard of the BOINC-wide team project?
What Willy described is nothing else, just for users. A project could do a simple import of users if every user would start to register there.
However, it probably would cause quite a workload I guess...

Thanks for your reply.

First, no, I have never heard of it.

Second, why even bring it up when it is such an implausible idea. This thing with email addresses has caused many problems and needs to be addressed with a remedy that will help all users of BOINCstats.

Are you are aware the CPID changes when the email address is changed, as well as for some other reasons? That is a BOINC wide issue, not BOINCstats itself. But, it would certainly make sense for it to become permanent, not sure why it was implemented that way to begin with... Just because you change one aspect of your account, doesn't mean it should be seen as a completely new one.

Thanks for this very informative reply.

Yes, I am aware that the CPID changes when the email address is changed. That is the core of my complaint.

No, I was not aware that this is a BOINC wide issue.

This certainly makes it much more important than I thought.

I am going to take this issue to BOINC, ave Anderson.

Thanks.

Yes, the "cross project identifier" is especially important for stats sites, but it is used by the BOINC client as well. It's probably a system that was developed back when there were only a few projects, and was never updated.
