Thanks for the help,

I have read older posts and have gotten all current projects on one machine and under one CPID except for two projects, DistrRTgen is temporarily down so I am not worried about it they will change cpid's to the current when they comeback online. Dnetc the retired project is the problem. Others with this problem were told to add another project I have and I either don't understand or didn't get it right.

here are the cpid's

cpid=9928309736553a56cad362773fba482a
cpid=87d7e31c5311905dfd6198d767cdb0dd

Thanks for the help, Happy Holidays

If you connected to Dnetc using BAM, go the BAM menu on the left of this page, click BOINCstats, then click "sync retired projects", then click the box next to Dnetc and then click update.

Dnetc should be back in your account in the next 24 hours.

Thanks for the response I am not sure I have ever connected to the project Dnetc through bam, I signed up with the same email and everything else though............

I clicked sync retired projects and it said I had no retired project credits to sync.................

I take it that's bad ? I really don't want to lose half a billion credits ! what else can be done ?

Unfortunately, you can only use the "Sync retired projects" function if you signed up for the project through BAM; it's a security measure to make sure that you're not stealing someone else's credits by creating a BAM account with their same account information.

You don't have to sign up through BAM!, you only have to connect it to your BAM! account. I usually create my account by hand in the projects before BAM! knows about them, and only later connect them to my BAM!.

so what you two are saying is unless i connected to Dnetc through BAM at some point before the project retired I have lost 463,086,928 and happy crunching ? only 169 people out of 2.2million people have ever crunched that many credits at the time of this post. Am I suppose to just say oh well better luck next time ?

I would say only a few of you know what it takes to get half a billion credits this is unacceptable !!!

So what's the solution in your opinion?

The problem lies with the projects, the stats sites only read their XML and generate the stats from them. The only link they have between the different accounts in different projects is the CPID, and if that changes - which it only does if the participant changes something, mine has never changed since 6 years - the stats sites can't connect them any longer.
Willy has an extra service here for those, who happen to use BAM! to keep an extra track on retired projects for people, who are registered. I thank him for this service, though I didn't need it up to now, but I don't expect him to go through all accounts, or even to do so manually upon request from crunchers.

Actually Saenger, its willy's server he should be able to do about anything he wants, or since you are representing him at the moment you should be able to do just about everything he can. I just made a post in a forum at a site that tracks my boinc credits to inquire about a possible solution to a problem of lost credits. I figured it would be as simple as typing a post, or checking on a persons stats that you would see that 112sparky made 463,086,928 credits at Dnetc and the cpuid got split and with a click of mouse, manually, presto cut and paste we are back in business. but I guess that cant be done. correct ?

The name is worth nothing in BOINC, just search for John or admin. OK, 112sparky or even Saenger seem to be unique, but that's not relevant. The only relevant item in sorting out who is who is the CPID, and a site that sorts through ~300 *.xml (host, user, team) has to do so automagically, not manually, depending on whether the name may be unique or not.
The .xml are created by the projects, and only there. They are created between once per hour up to once per day. The stats sites only read them and process the content to something better readable, and even connect different accounts on different projects through the only workable way, i.e. the CPID. The CPID is as well created at the project and written in every new .xml.

If there is a second item that links accounts together, and that can never be the name, it could be done by some tricks, like Willy does for BAM!-users, who happen to have another unique ID.

If you look at other stats sites, you will see the same thing happening, there even without a chance to correct it via some other ID:

If it's not in your BAM! account you're out of luck. I'm unable to support 2 million users who might have a split CPID. If BOINCstats was my job and paid the bills I could work full-time on BOINCstats and I could possible provide support up to this level, but as it is now, I can't simply go through the trouble of verifying all the split CPIDs (making sure the credits really belong to somebody) without sacrificing something else (like spending time with my wife or eating).

If you want your credit to be complete in the future make sure you add every active project to your BAM! account. And note that this only works for BOINCstats. For complaints about how the CPID works I refer you to the BOINC devs.

So, if someone or some company wants to pay me for working full-time on BOINCstats I might be able to fix some broken CPIDs.

well thanks for everyones time in this matter, Have a Merry Christmas. Maybe you could put on one of the sidebar advertisements that if "we" the users don't put all projects in BAM there is a 100% chance of losing a projects credits at sometime or another with cpuid splits when adding new machines.

It was a good run, time to put 15 video cards on craigslist before Christmas.

112sparky world position 18,
641million points before the cpuid theft

Im OUT !

As kaptain of the team he is on, I can say those credits were his.

I'm sorry to hear of this situation, it's going to happen to me one day as I do not and never will use bam. I prefer individual control and do not want all my passwords, yes a different one for every project, to be stored all in one place. As team kaptain i don't want to take any chance of someone cracking one and then taking over the whole team, with separate passwords they might get 1 of 80 or more, but not all.

We are sorry to see someone quit boinc, it is not just a loss for our team but to any active projects, the science and boinc overall that he participated in.
