the add-url button is faulty:

"(url=http://boincstats.com/forum/forum_post.php?id=5)(/url)"

changed the brackets to be able to show what happens..

And in your opinion, what's wrong with it?

What's the problem?
That's the syntax for a link, just put the word that should link there in the middle where the cursor already is located or mark the word to link somewhere first and click the button afterwards, works fine here.

yes, i'm used to BBcode-syntax for a while.

works if you marked the text you have written and the hit the button - if you simply hit the button and paste into the popup it scrambles..

I'll give it a try. Here's a link to my stats, prepared in 3 different ways:
1. Type the word first, link afterwards
2. Link first, type later
3. http://de.boincstats.com/stats/boinc_user_graph.php?pr=bo&id=999daca9efac06bffb127a67d9c47f12

Works fine in all three cases, just the quotes within quotes still don't work in wysiwig

Well this is normal behavior (take a look at BB Codes in wikipedia. if you want the URL to be the text that is show for the link you have to put (url)http://something.com(/url)

Indeed, that's not possible. But that's fine, imho it's not the usual behaviour to simply paste long URLs instead of a short word linked to it.

i don't care what anyone likes to define as usual - i don't hide links i post for ages and i will not change this.
if i can't use that button because it does not work like i expect it to do - fine, i can get rid of it.

Just a question, say, you have to pee. But instead of pushing a button to flush, you have to pull a lever. Do you then refuse to pee and break the lever off the toilet?

Since Willy implemented this function in this way.

imho it's not the usual behaviour to simply paste long URLs instead of a short word linked to it.

I usually never use those buttons, I use a BBCode extension for Firefox with a right-click. I nearly always use readable words as a name for links, and hide the nerdy stuff (the URL itself) behind them. I only use the URL as a text if I explicitly need it to demonstrate something.

But that's a matter of taste, to suit both of us Willy needs to have two buttons, one for URLs as direct links and one for linked words.

probably i'll take the next wall available...

to be serious again. if i do not want to supply the text which is defined as optional in BBcode-standards i will have to edit the outcome of that inputbox afterwards. i am the only one to think that this is implemented the wrong way around?

perhaps the first signs of getting to old..

Nope. I pee in the wash basin and leave a pubic hair on the soap. You've got to think around problems rather than conform.

URL button now has all possible options.

When no text is selected it asks for a text for the url. If none given it'll do {url}link{/url}.

So, the button doesn't have to be removed?
