Is RAC deprecation working?

Riesel Sieve is the best example of this:

My RS Stats page

I've not crunched anything (obviously, since Lee ran away with the whole project) since the Great Escape in June 2008. As you can see, my RAC is still showing a daily figure of 3,914.75597.

As you can also see, this number is giving a false value for overall RAC:

My Combined BOINCstats Page

Which is showing RAC of 9,135.73220, while I'm actually doing around 5,200 daily.

Can you take a look please Willy?

Thanks & a Happy New Year!

That's why Willy invented the BS-RAC.
He can't do anything about the XML from the projects, but as you can see in your sig your BS-RAC is 0.000

Hi Saenger,

I had a feeling you might show up...I've been around a while now and know the difference between Project RAC & BSRAC.

BUT, if the imported stats are unchanged for a long period of time, the RAC can be reduced accordingly. Please see this sig. :

Here, the RAC has been deprecated, based on the amount of time that RS left the scene. I have a feeling that I read somewhere that Willy does the same thing for Retired projects, so as not to do what RS is doing ATM - as usual, correct me if I'm wrong - so couldn't the same system be applied to "Dead" or "Suspended" projects?

Happy new year!!

Sorry to keep bothering you guys, but since RAC is used to calculate quite a lot of stats :

Code:
BOINC World position based on RAC (based on incremental update) 1,542 out of 1,572,135
Contribution to BOINC total RAC 0.00714%
Contribution to Team total RAC 10.95405%
Contribution to own country total RAC 0.52256%

These data taken from my stats page, cited in the 1st post in this thread

I think that having the correct RAC value is important from a statistical point of view ( World pos. based on RAC - I must be at about 3000th at a quick guess ) and seeing that we're all here for the statistics, IMHO it might be useful to have all the values correct.

Another example is in the User Stats Lists: BSRAC is not used, normal project RAC is. In this case, if I want to, say, see where I stand RAC-wise in my country of choice, I can only sort the list with project RAC, therefore giving me the wrong data:

User List for Italy, sorted by RAC

At the time of writing this, I'm shown to be :

Code:

last------last------last-----------------------------Total------Credit-----Credit-----Credit------Average
month-----week------day------Pos.------User Name-----credit-----/day-------/week------/month------credit
121_______112_______109______21_________Seejay_____1,192,865____5,611______40,616_____135,602______9,159

Whereas I should be in about 40th Pos.

Thanks again!

Rieselsieve is not yet set as a retired project (should it be) and as such the RAC is taken from the XML.

OK, your RAC is oversized... but we love you anyway

who should say: "the project is retired" ? Project owners or BOINC managers also ?

Usualy it's the project owner(s) who anounces that the project will stop, but since these people disappeared, it's kind of unknown wheter the project will return or not. There are contradicting statements about the status of the project.

then it would be a solution to open up a new cathegory "inactive projects" for those which are out of production for quite some time - let's say 180 days?

Seems like this is an appropriate thread for this!

I just noticed on this page that I still have a RAC >0 for several projects which have been off the scene for some time; Riesel Sieve & Zivis being just the two that jump out.

Is anything being done about these? Can anything be done?!

RieselSieve is retired since today, so the RAC for this project has gone with the daily update (user stats, host stats tomorrow).

I can't say anything about Zivis because I don't crunch for this project. But i realized that some projects don't update (calculate) the RAC if you don't work for them. BOINCstats itself don't calculate the RAC, only imports the stats from projects.

You can work a single wu so that the RAC is updated by the project to a (probably) small value. The smaller the wu the smaller the RAC.

That would be quite a challenge - Zivis officially retired (completed its goals) some time back; probably over a year ago now!

Just realized that the RAC for RieselSieve still is there. Sorry, i have no idea how to set the RAC to 0.

Probably Willy can fix that (for retired projects).

[Edit]Maybe not a stats bug, but a suggestion for retired projects.[/Edit]

RAC in retired projects doesn't decline. The stats are frozen on the last update (I have a deja vu moment here).

I agree with you on this one Willy ; if the person posting would maybe take a minute to read the preceding posts in a thread, then maybe we'd all get a little more sleep, instead of having to repeat what's already there to be read!!

I thought I'd wait a while, after the retirement of RS, just to say:

I'm happy that BSRAC and Project RAC are now moving along hand in hand, barring any future disasters....

Did a good job moving RS out of the picture!!
