Hi Willy,
I noticed that the 'unread' tag is not clearing after I have read a post in a forum.
Usually, with the old site, after reading posts; the tag cleared automatically for the forum threads. This is while using IE7. "Mark all threads as read" works fine.

Thanks,
Dan

And if you hit 'F5' once? Does that clear it?

Using Chrome. The same behaviour. The Unread Tag is cleared after pressing F5 and after a renewed visit to the thread, but not when returning from a thread (Backspace or click to the back) to the main Forum Page. There I have to remember which page I have read or press F5

Also no clearing after reading a post within a thread and returning to that thread by Backspace.

In the old Forum version it was cleared instantly without F5's. (IE, Firefox and Chrome)

I have the same problem (and the same IE release - yes, i've upgraded from IE6 ) and pressing F5 does clear it, as well as using the index links instead of the browser back-key. I even told the browser to look for new versions of each page every time I use it, instead of "automatically", but to no avail.

I used to have the same problem with the old site design and IE6, but that went away with upgrading to IE7. However, back then, the tags got reset when I went back the whole way through my call stack and called BOINCstats from the start screen (without exiting the browser), but that now doesn't clear the tags either. [edit2]This last effect went away with my changing of the "reread" browser option.[/edit]

Good Morning!
Yes, as both Crystal Pellet and Gundolf Jahn have stated; F5 does clear the tag, so that I don't think that there is a new post that I haven't read yet.
I like automatic clearing (the old version) better, of course.

I just Googled all of the internet but I haven't found a solution yet. Cache is disabled for these pages and a "no-cache' directive is send to the browser, yet it seems to get the pages from browser-cache anyway. It actually makes sense, using the back button instructs the browser to show the previous page, not reload the previous page.

If anyone has an idea to solve this make yourself known.

I don't know how, but all other BOINC fora I know of manage to achieve the desired (albeit illogical) effect of adjusting the read flag when using the back button. And, as already mentioned, with the old BOINCstats design it worked also.

I know it worked, have to look into that.

This forum does not share it's code anymore with the BOINC forum code (which is way too messed up).

Not really

At least with IE7, the flags on the top level forum now aren't even cleared with a refresh (F5).

IE7... You know we are at IE9 now? Or even better, update to Crome.

In any case, my fix can not have things work worse.

As the OP; IE9 (as well as Google Chrome) works fine clearing the unread tag by pressing the refresh (F5) button; after using the browser back button; as that was always intended to show the previous page just as it was.
I am perfectly content with that. Thanks,Willy.

Just rechecked and my "fix" only seems to work with Firefox.

Back to the drawing-board.
