BOINC Alpha is the test project for BOINC. As far as I know, it has no other purpose then testing, no science or useful work is done, other then testing new features for BOINC.

My question: should this project be supported on BOINCstats, with all features the other projects have, including credits added to BOINC combined stats?

Please vote and/or share your thoughts.

I don't fully understand. If users are going to just install Boinc Alpha for the purpose of testing if it works on their machine, that would be up to the user. They would have to turn off/uninstall their present Boinc. This would be like testers for a browsers say Mozilla.I would only use the most stable version while testers would test the browser and see what makes it tick.
I believe here in these groups we have enough users with enough knowledge to test "Alpha" versions of the project.
What stats would be posted is unclear.

my 0.02 EUR :

If you count Pirates in - which is nothing but a test project - there's no reason not to have BOINC Alpha.

If it's only for scientific projects, BURP wouldn't fit either.

Alpha testing is valuable work so why not add it to the stats?

Boinc Alpha, Set@Home Beta Test and CPDN Alpha all do the same function of testing pre-release sciience and boinc changes including server side and client.

These changes become production stable.

Some of this like the new sulphur cycle on CPDN rewuires 100's of hrs of crunching to test the new code.

Although boinc.dk hasn't added Pirates to their stats, it has 1518 users with credit while BOINC alpha has 34. And nobody KNOWS about BOINC alpha as seen from the post by Joe K. Whether it is added or not almost allusers will be unaffected.

Why should there be a distinction between BURP and "scientific" projects? I can understand a difference between boinc testing projects and "useful" ones, but burp is (will be) public and when it gets going the credit would run into the millions as well.

Boinc Alpha, Set@Home Beta Test and CPDN Alpha all

and LHC alpha. Is BOINC Beta still in existence?

BOINC Alpha ought to have about 80 with credit. It will have some of the most well known names around BOINC. As for the user that assumed it was for testing end users machines for compatibility, no, it is for testing the development of S@H and BOINC. The Alpha testers run with new software for a while to see if anything horrible happens to them, and that version does not get released if anything does.

If BOINC Beta still exists, I cannot find it. Does anybody remember the URL?

CPDN Alpha has not AFAIK generated any credit yet (trickles seem to be broken).

The original LHC alpha is gone. The new one rolled its credit into the new LHC so there is no need there (At least, I got credit for the Alpha work when LHC transferred over so I assume the others did too).

I agree with John,

I think BOINC Alpha could be included as it generates credits. It might not be much but it is for science just as much as the general seti project is. Although the "science" in this case is to make sure that the program is stable enough to use for a diferent kind of science.

Just in case I'm going to support this, can anybody provide the scheduler URL? I can't create an account myself.

Boinc Alpha is at http://isaac.ssl.berkeley.edu/alpha/ and the schedular URL is http://isaac.ssl.berkeley.edu/alpha_cgi/cgi

Any other info please scream...

The SETI@Home Beta Test is at http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta/

I did a quick check and SETI@Home Beta Test has no XML export files.

I have found the BOINC Alpha stats here :

http://isaac.ssl.berkeley.edu/alpha/stats/

The scheduler is here :

http://isaac.ssl.berkeley.edu/alpha_cgi/cgi

p.s.: The scheduler URL(s) are always in a comment on the project home page so for Beta it would be:

http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/beta_cgi/cgi

Maybe this one is useful somehow :

http://oct31.org/boinc_sched/src_sched.php

update cycle is 15-minutes

The old BOINC Beta Test was at http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/ap/. Nothing much happens at SETI Beta.

Hey, Willy. How come LHC Alpha stats doesn't show up in the signature graphic? As far as BOINC Alpha is concerned, I think that any BOINC projects that produces XML stat files should be supported by 3rd party stat sites.

LHC Alpha has requested (as do other Alpha/beta projects) not to show them publicly on BOINCstats. That also means signatures.

If you visit the LHC Alpah forum you know where to find the stats.
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

Why do you want this project "in" so much? I could care less myself, but alas its not up to me.

You are contributing to SETI, aren't you benefiting from BOINCStats' support for SETI? The same will be true for BOINC Alpha users if it's added. I wouldn't see any reason for any BOINC Alpha users to not support this.

My view is that alphas, betas and all kinds of tes or development projects should be treated separetely from public projects.
I am not sure, if they should be presented in signature graphics for example. A person having credits in many of these projects would end up with extremely cluttered signature (which unfortunetely is case on some other stat sites). Seeing such signuture may be also very confusing for beginning users, who may not know differences between test projects and public projects.
 Why not summing them up under one entry "Development projects", and giving ability to have a separate signature graphics with those projects only?
 Same is proposed for Retired projects, when we have more of them
