See how difficult it is to think up a poll?

And I have to do this every week

Here's a few I've thought of in the last 5 mins...

How often do you alter the projects that you crunch for (or alter the resource share of them)?

- Never, I set it up and have left it
- Once or twice a month
- Once or twice a week, I just can't stop changing things

Do you keep an eye on how your clients are doing?

- No, I leave them to it
- Yes, I check on them one a week
- Yes, I check on them every day

Do you use the resource share settings?

- No, I leave it at the default of 100
- Yes

What's your second favourite project?

Which non-BOINC project would you be interested in crunching for if they provided a BOINC client?

- Folding@Home
- OGR
- RC5-72
(add some other distributed projects too)

which project do you think will take the longest to return usable results?

do you actively look for new projects that aren't yet known about? (maybe re-phrase this to make it clearer)

- What is your primary operating platform for BOINC crunching?

Windows 32
Windows 64
Linux 32
Linux 64
Solaris x86
Solaris Sparc
FreeBSD
Mac OSX PPC
Mac OSX Intel

- Did you start off with Seti@Home classic?

Yes
No

- Do you crunch / fold / sieve for any other projects?

No, BOINC and only BOINC
Folding@Home
World Community Grid (the non-BOINC client)
GRID
Proth Sieve
Darwin@home
Other, sciences (not bio or medical)
Other, life sciences, bio, or medical
Other, Mathematics
Other, Cryptography
Other, Financial
Other, not specified here

- What types of projects would you like to see developed?

Astronomy / Astrophysics
Physics, theoretical
Chemistry
Particle physics / quantum physics
Mathematics
Life sciences / biology
Medical / Epidemiology
Cryptography
Financial
Engineering
Puzzles / games / art

- How many BOINC projects do you crunch for?

One and only one.
Two
Three
4-5
6-8
9-12
13+

- How do you select BOINC projects?

I have one project I crunch.
I base it on an area of interest (astronomy, biology, cryptography, etc)
I check the web site and forums. If I like the project’s “feel” (documentation, user and developer participation on forums, number of documented bugs), I sign up.
I sign up for what will run on my operating system (mainly for Solaris or Mac OSX).
I go for projects with optimized clients so my newer-model processor can be properly utilized to its full ability (SSE / SSE2 / SSE3 optomization).
I compulsively register for EVERY SINGLE PROJECT I SEE!!! ALL OF THEM!!!
I sign up for whatever the voices in my head / my ouija board / the aliens / my Rice Crispies© tell me to.

- Have you been running distributed projects long enough that you have contributed crunching time to projects that have ended and no longer exist/run? (More than one answer can be given.)

No
Yes, BOINC-based projects.
Yes, SETI@Home classic.
Yes, non-BOINC projects
Yes, pre-BOINC era projects.

how many hosts do you have that are just used for BOINC crunching?

None, all my host are often used as regular computers
1-5
6-10
11-15
16-20
20+

what would make you stop crunching for a project?

(i'll leave this to the discression of the diplomatic Willy lol, i'm sure he'll think of some more "politically correct" answers than i would)

what determines your resource shares? ie what makes you give one project more than another?

*optimised apps available [edit]or fastest native apps (in measuring FlOps speed)[/edit]
    *project stability (highest uptime)
*project importance (to science/humanity) (eg, is fighting disease more important that maths related issues)
*amount of time before usable results are obtained
    *impact on humanity
*your interest in the area of research the project is concerned with
    *your loyalty to a project
    *system requirements
    *length of workunits
    *graphics available
*good communication from the project staff
*lifespan of the project (only long or only short projects)

(willy, i'm sure you can word some of these better than i)

[edit]changed a few entries, and added others[/edit]

how many years will it take before we see some real benifits/effects [edit](not just scientific results)[/edit] of long-term projects like CPDN and rosetta?

    *5-10
    *10-20
    *20-30
    *30-40
    *40+

(willy, feel free to adjust the time frame of the options)

I like this one, but I would want to chose multiple options or rate each option less important.....more important.

i did wonder how it might be done, obviosuly multiple choice is better, and was what i was aiming for, as i for one use many factors to decide on resource shares
i'm sure there are better ways of doing my poll suggestion, i just wanted to give the idea, and an example, so feel free to suggest better ways of wording the question and/or the answers

i imagined willy would have to have a more flexible poll system first thou

ideally for this particular poll you'd have check boxes rather than radio buttons, and instead of each person counting as 1 vote, each option would count as 1 vote...
as in:
if i chose 3 options, that's 3 votes, then someone else chose 6 that's 9 in total, someone else chose 2, that's 11 now
and so on
the total of each option would be the total number of times that option was chosen out of the total number of votes (options) cast

(hope that makes sense)

i think these would have to be multiple-choice as well
prehaps with more choices for "projects you'd like to see developed" (suggestions welcome), or maybe just the lazy option of "other" lol

How many new people have you gotten to join a BOINC project in the last year?

1
2
3
4
5-9
10-49
50+

Hi!

How about this one:
"Do we need a counter for the shouts in the shoutbox for each BAM account (for personal statistics)?
1. Yes
2. No "

Sorry, Willy, as I mentioned this in another thread some time ago I didn't encountered that there is a thread for poll suggestions.
I'm a little bit slow in searching and reading through the entire forum

I have another one:
"Which workunits do you prefer the most?
1. 0-30 min.
2. 30-60 min.
3. 1-3 hours
4. 4-10 hours
5. 10 and beyond "
Maybe the time steps can vary if you mean there are better ones.

Let me know if they are worth or not
