Comments on the following newsitem
Deeplinks to pages related to countries have changed for the BOINC combined stats. They will also change for the projects in the coming week. This is needed to relieve stress on the database.

Hmm? Can you show a before and after comparison? I don't see the difference.

Also, Good URIs Don't Change...

Saeger is right.

And so is PovAddict (you can run but you can't hide!).

I have choices to make. The server is overload with database requests. There are several reasons. One is more visitors, thus more page request. But another one is poor queries There is a lot of old code in BOINCstats, back from the days with 100 visitors per day and me not knowing what I was doing. For example, getting all users from a country from the database was grouping the by country name. Searching in text is much slower than searching for numbers. So now all countries have numbers. I could have kept the old URL's and do a translation to new, but that would be another database request to get the correct number for the country.

So, Pov, these were bad URIs to begin with, hence they had to change to good URI's.

Edit: typo

Agreed. Everyone makes mistakes; particularly the one of bad URIs. (And I know how much you knew about web development when you first started; so that's a completely valid excuse/reason).

But they still aren't as good as they could be. Good URIs aren't tied to the current server implementation (PHP). Good URIs show the hierarchy of the data. Like boincstats.com/forum/thread/3539 or boincstats.com/stats/burp/users and the logical continuation boincstats.com/stats/burp/users/6506.

REST fanboy me? Nah.

From stuff you said yourself in many posts (like "back from the days with 100 visitors per day and me not knowing what I was doing" in this thread). And also an admin of a certain project once told me "did you know Willy barely knew PHP and MySQL when he first started the site".

You probably know what project admin I'm talking about
