Comments on the following newsitem
Dear visitor and user of BOINCstats. It's that time again where I ask for your (financial) help .

BOINCstats has grown over the years, many things have changed, we added a separate webserver, we joined forces with Primegrid, last year we upgraded our hosting to our own rack, and we created many many stats. But one thing never changed. One proud server was always there. It was the BOINCstats webserver, then it also hosted Primegrid, and after adding the server for Primegrid and the BOINCstats webserver it became the backbone of the stats: it runs all the updates and prepares the stats for the webserver.

But all good things come to an end sometime. Lately the database server has been struggling, it became unstable. It's also getting slow because users and hosts keep increasing, but the server can no longer be upgraded.

So, it's time to replace it....

The parts for the server have been ordered, but you can understand that it's not a €250 budget computer. So I'll say it quickly so it won't seem that much: we need €2000.

If you like BOINCstats, BAM!, the forum, the user profiles or if you just like your daily portion of stats, then please consider donating a small amount. You can do so on the <a href="http://boincstats.com/page/donations.php">donation page</a>.

Thank you very much for your support!

Willy.

BOINCstats/BAM! donations

. . . so far, pledges cover 64.4% of the cost of BOINCstats' new database server.

Please consider making a contribution to help keep BOINCstats operating at the level we have all come to expect.

Of course it helps. If every BAM! user would donate half of that I could buy a dozen servers

Willy, did you have time to figure out some performance increase doing the incremental/daily updates?

I'm working on the code right now, but it's damn hot here (I'm sticking to the table).

What I've done so far is going through all the update scripts and I changed quite a lot of things which should increase the speed but require more memory (which is not a problem until we have about double the users/host we have now).

The host update is a few hours quicker than on the old server, the user/team update is about 33% quicker.

My intention is to run incremental user/team updates while the hosts are updating. Then there won't be a 10 hour gap between the updates. Coming night this will be tested. Doing this does of course slow the host update down, I'm very curious just how much.

Another thing that has to be changed for that is copying the updated tables to the webserver. The old way everything was running in sequence, but now things will run in parallel, so I have to keep better track of updated projects.

Because it's so hot I'm forced to have a BBQ in about an hour so I can't continue then. Life sucks doesn't it?

That's a rather good improvement!

I already had two thunderstorms over here, but the TS who could influence your place over Luxemburg and the Ardennes are almost stationary atm, so enjoy your BBC. You deserved it, even when you have to cook yourself

I have shut down the host updates on the old server. It takes to much time now to complete it and it interferes with the user/team updates.

Not to worry though, the new server is already running all the updates and when it's moves to the datacenter the host stats will be updated again, including the coming days that are skipped by the old one.

The new BOINCstats database server is paid for.

Thanks to all the members and supporters who made this possible!

BOINCstats and BAM are not without cost and we hope many members and supporters will continue to toss in a couple of €'s a month to pay for rackspace and bandwidth.
