Sorry for the 404. Bad copy/paste. I ended up with an extra / somehow.

crap I had entered all the steps in great detail... took to long and got logged off and lost it all...

Well the moving of the v5.10.28 executables over the v5.10.8 versions worked fine. I'll go create a .doc or .txt file now while I can still remember it in case any noobs like me want the full detail of the steps to updgrade to current version after doing the install with sudo apt-get install boinc-client boinc-manager

Skip

If anyone is interested in my v5.10.8 to v5.10.28 upgrade over top of the install done by get-apt install boinc-client boinc-manager you can grab THIS .doc file.

If you find any errors let me know and I'll update it.

Seems I failed to mention one teeny little detail.... 'twas all done in Gutsy 7.10 version of Xubuntu.

Even though there's an official AMD64 client for Linux, it refers to too many dynamic libraries and requires a fairly recent Linux setup to run.

So, one more time, I'm making available a more updated version of the AMD64 Linux client here. It refers to a minimal set of standard dynamic libraries whose version requirements should be satisfied by Linux systems up to 2 or 3 years old, however it was built with a fairly recent version of GCC, 4.1.2.

The drill's still the same:

The official AMD64 Windows client can be found here.

Hi Augustine, thanks for all the hard work on AMD64 clients! When I try to add Tanpaku and 3x+1 in Linux both whine to me "Message from server: platform 'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu' not found." Why don't they "just work" like SIMAP & malariacontrol.net? Thank you.

I added Tanpaku a few weeks ago. It only runs on my AMD64 computer. I've returned 10 successful work units, and have one currently in progress. (Just checked the site.) The WU currently running is at 96.666% done. [Ahh! Work of the devil!!! >;-) ] I am currently running Tanpaku on an AMD Athlon+ 4200 X2, 2Gb RAM, Fedora Core 8 x64 kept fully patched, and BOINC 5.10.28. I have only only run Tanpaku on this PC, so the work listed in my sig is all from my FC8 x64 computer.

What are the specs under which you are running? Most importantly, what distro are you running? To my limited knowledge, it sounds like the you are running a generic Debian build or a distro that doesn't label itself, and the projects don't recognize the build name. Do you get this on any other projects?

At a command prompt, you can find the kernel version which the kernel reports itself as using the command "uname -r". Just type that at a command prompt. Actually, be a good user, run "man uname" to read up a bit on it and make sure you're not being given bad information, then run the command. (Sorry, I work in IT, and encourage people to not blindly follow "run this" type instructions on random internet posts.)

If you can post that information here (processor, RAM, BOINC build, distro, and output of uname), someone may be able to give you more specific information.

Because x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu is not a BOINC platform. It should be x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.

PovAddict is correct. If you built your client, make sure to specify "--host=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" for its "configure" command. Otherwise, you're welcome to download the AMD64 client I made available here.

News of "galactic" proportions!. :-)

Native 64-bit Application Sent to AMD64 Clients:

    * Milkyway (Windows)

AFAIK Milkyway is now also sending a 64-bit app to Linux clients.

EDIT: But there are some glitches that have to be ironed out.
Greetings from Cori

The folks at Ibercivis have been working hard. And they have quite a few applications, some are still 32-bit applications, but most are native AMD64 now. As they're too many to spell out, I'll just list Ibercivis as native AMD64, though it's not true for all applications.

In addition, as the client version 5.10 has been around for a while and most projects use the corresponding server version, when AMD64 clients get 32-bit applications if native AMD64 ones aren't available, I'll stop tracking those projects that send 32-bit applications. This should keep the list smaller and clearer.

Native 64-bit Application Sent to AMD64 Clients:

- SIMAP (Linux)
- Chess960 (Linux)
- ABC & ABC ß
- Predictor (Linux)
- RieselSieve (Linux: Sieve)
- Leiden (Linux)
- APS
- Cosmology (Linux)
- Tanpaku (Linux)
- Malaria (Linux)
- SHA-1 (Linux)
- Yoyo (Linux)
- PrimeGrid (Sieve)
- Sudoku (Linux)
- TSP
- RCN (Linux: TCAPE)
- SETI & SETI ß (Linux)
- Superlink (Linux)
- 3x+1 (Linux)
- Milkyway
- Ibercivis (Linux & Windows)

PS: I had to stop using a BBCode list because there seems to be a limit on the number of items that one can have.

There are also some AMD64/x64_64 BOINC clients and science application for other OSes available :
BOINC : FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris x86
SETI : FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris x86

A full list is available at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/DownloadOther

Btw. I have a lot of troubles to view this thread in Firefox. Looks like the thread is to long. - What's about to start a new one ?

Btw. I have a lot of troubles to view this thread in Firefox. Looks like the thread is to long. - What's about to start a new one ?

I use Firefox too and I have no problems at all...

But I'd rather keep this thread if you're OK with it because I referred to it in the README file that accompanied the clients I built.

Thanks.
