Is there some way to run boinc without having to install it on the PC? I´m asking because at work, IT deprtmt does not allow it to be installed...

Well, it is possible.

But as a member of the IT department at my work, I can tell you that what you are going to do is not very much appreciated.

Furthermore it violates the BOINC user agreement.

That said: install BOINC on a computer where you have install rights, then copy the BOINC directory to any system and run boincmgr.exe.

Running it without installing will follow the letter but not the "idea" of your company's rules. The point is they don't allow you to run other software.

You´re right Willy, but it´s a shame. They say that it´s not a registered or certified software, meaning that they don´t know about it. Do you think, being a member of the IT department of your work, that boinc can be a dangerous software?

I don't think BOINC is dangerous (as in opening the door for virussus) , but you have to considere a few things:
1: with BOINC the system will produce more heat. The CPU-cooler may not be up to the task
2: BOINC needs data. Data costs bandwidth. If your company has to pay per MB they will not like it
3: BOINC needs memory, for some projects lots of it. We fit our systems with the least possible ammount of system memory. It's enough to run the apps the user needs, but nothing more

Even though I run BOINC personally, and even though I'm a big BOINC supporter, we still do not run BOINC in our company (and I'm the IT manager ).

I was the IT manager/Head admin on a large company myself and must agree, even though i myself am a fanatic on dpc projects personally.

The top manager did not agree on running other software then needed for the company and the penalty for not doing so was and is that you leave the building with some guards around you if get caught.
This rule applied for games/chat/pron whatever not for work needed as well

So its better not to run boinc even though its easy to run without install.

My advice is not to do it for boinc sake
