In BOINC I want to see the tasks that another host is running...Ive gone to "advanced" "select comp" and entered the host name and the correct password (I think). However, I keep getting the error "BoINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to tr again"...Im not sure what Im doing wrong - how could I verify the password for the host?
If we learn from our mistakes...Im getting a GREAT edjucation!!

Go to the BOINC folder for that host and open a file called gui_rpc_auth.cfg, it contains the password for that host.

ok gsvr...Im curious what program you used to open the you sugested...I used "notepad" and "xml editor", both gave me the rewsult of a 32 letter and # sequece of characters. I entered this into the password field of the "select comp" box with the same results ("BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try again"...so im still unable to see the tasks that another host is running...

you replace that 32 letter sequence with whatever pw you want it to be.

tankmaster...I replaced the 32 pw with my own and saved (on/for that BOINC machine). Put the new pw into the box (on the other machine-along with that machines name) but, got the same reply "BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try again"...

The other thing to check is the remote_hosts.cfg. It must have the hostname or IP address of the computer that you are checking from for the BOINC client on the computer you are checking to allow access.

I'm not sure that made sense to me.

Try this site. It's BOINC's wiki.

Also, you must restart the client for any of these changes to take affect.

WyerByter...I did a search for anything containing "remote_hosts.cfg" and nothing came up...I restarted BOINC on both comps and re-entered the machine name and pass word (into BOINC) with the same result ("BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client. Would you like to try again&quot...I downloaded BOINCView and am going to playu around with that for a bit...

remote_host.cfg is a text file you create in notepad.

On each line you put the IP address of your computers ie:

192.168.0.0
192.168.0.1

When you save the file, use "Save As" and got to "Save As Type" and select "All Files" otherwise it will save the file as "remote_host.cfg.txt", then save in your all your BOINC folders and restart BOINC.

No need to do a search, he gave you a link to RpcAuth docs.
Not running BOINC anymore for several reasons...
