how is a project determined to be in beta state versus alpha state vs established (-)??...for example, Is it time?
If we learn from our mistakes...Im getting a GREAT edjucation!!

Again I`m not sure, but, from what I gather, I`d say a project goes into beta when the most serious technical problems are resolved and the basics are in order (credits, for one). And then goes into "production" (I think that`s the word they use) when it`s "ready" to be made public and so on. =)

Alpha = Not feature complete
Beta = Feature complete but buggy
Production = Feature complete and with "no" bugs

its up to the project admin to state if they are in beta, alpha, or other (pre-alpha sometimes)
