I'm having a problem with my quad core processor not crunching at 100% when crunching Einstein WUs. I see this only when crunching E@h. When E@h is running on two or more cores on my quad, the processor slows down to far less than 100%. When two are used for E@h, processor usage goes down to ~77%; when three are being used for E@h, processor use goes down to below 50%. The only way for me to keep the processor crunching efficiently is to only allow one E@h WU at a time to crunch along with other projects. I also note that the CPU time for the running E@H WUs is 50% slower when two or more E@h WUs are running. Any idea what is going on here?

Gerry:

The first place I would look would be on performance monitor and see if you have memory issues.

Great idea, but no dice there. Memory usage and such is normal for Einstein and other projects as far as I can tell. As an experiment, I forced E@h into running both of my currently downloaded WUs to run simultaneously. Sure enough, as soon as I did that, the processor usage immediately started fluctuating downward. As soon as I returned to only one E@h WU running, processor usage went right back up to 100% and stayed steady there, as normal. Memory for the E@h work units stayed the same as well.

What's your CPU temps like? I've had some WU's slow things down and seen a spike in core temps at the same time.

No idea there. I don't use one of those temp programs. I really doubt that's the problem since E@h is the only project with the problem. Apart from that, I just blew things out a few weeks ago to keep the dust and temps under control.
