BOINC Version 6.4.5 is running on my 4-Core Q9550 with a GTX280 graphic-card.
I´m using Vista Ultimade 64 with 4 GB RAM.
In former days 4 WU were running plus 1 WU on the graphic-card (GPUGRID).
The GPUGRID WU is signed with 0,03CPUs, 1 CUDA.
I didn´t remember which change was made that now only 3 normal WU plus the GPUGRID WU are calculated.
Thanks in advance!

Hello Sabroe_SMC,

I do not have that prob yet, but I read about it on a SETI optimized forum.
They suggested (for SETI-GPU) to add this file with the number of CPUs set to #CPUs + #GPUs (in your case 4 + 1 = 5):

cc_config.xml

<cc_config>
<options>
<ncpus>5</ncpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

<ncpus>
Act as if there were N CPUs: run N tasks at once. This is for debugging, i.e. to simulate 2 CPUs on a machine that has only 1. Don't use it to limit the number of CPUs used by BOINC; use general preferences instead.

for more see: wiki - client configuration

This is not a real solution but at best a patch till it is fixed in the BOINC client.

I'm not entirely sure where to place the file either but I suspect in the main BOINC folder.

I hope that helps.

Holly

First, the project can define the tasks to be GPU+CPU, or just plain GPU. So perhaps GPUGRID made a change to also use a CPU in addition to the GPU.

Second, you can override the project, with the instructions from Holly. But understand that if the project goes back to a pure GPU task, then you will be running 5 CPU tasks on only 4 cores. Nothing wrong with that of course.

btw,

the file needs to be in the main BOINC folder as I guessed. However for me it means as many CPU tasks + 1 GPU task so I deleted the file again.

The older version of the GPUgrid app used alot of CPU time. On my Athlon 64 3000+ it used about 80%. So at times the client seemed to decide not to run additional WU on the CPU.
The new version uses only a tiny bit of CPU time so there should be plenty of time left for a normal WU and so far both GPUgrid and SETIcuda let this happen.
