I would post this on th MW@H forum, but you need a specific amount of credit to post to their boards, and the way things are going, I may NEVER accumulate enough to post

I recently joined that project and when the WU started BOINC Manager showed a little over 7 hours to completion

I now have almost 20 hours accumulated and now have 40:30 to completion

Do I need to reset this project? or is this normal? or ....?

TIA

You shouldn't crunch Milkyway on your CPU. GPU is much, much, very much quicker ...

When you first start crunching WUs on a new project it is perfectly normal for estimated completion times to be greatly over or under estimated. As you crunch more WUs the estimated time to completion will adjust and become more accurate.

If you are crunching with a CPU that has SSE2 or SSE3 instruction set, make sure you are using the SSE2 optimized application to do the work. Visit the project for more information on optimized CPU applications.

@magyarficko

Thanks

Yeah, was out of town for four days, and now MW@H is counting down quite nicely (Though if BoincMgr know my CPU, my cruching habits and what a praticular project exectable needs, I fail to see why it needs a week of crunching to settle down)

On the subject of Optimized Executables: Unless I'm missing something, all the projects say that they will send me the appropriate program. I don't seem to see a list of alternates that I can download. I remember years ago (I just recently started crunching again) the optimized executables were separate downloads, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore

You can find CPU optimized apps here ...

http://www.arkayn.us/milkyway/

I haven't crunched MilkyWay CPU in a looooong time but the optimized apps used to make a HUGE difference -- maybe as much as ½ to ⅓ the run times if I remember correctly. Installation is a fairly straight forward procedure if you read and follow the directions in the associated "read me" files in the download. It's a bewildering array of programs available, so make sure you choose carefully and appropriately for your class of CPU and your OS. Lots more help available in this forum at the project. Good luck!

P.S. Download and run CPU-Z to determine exactly what instructions your CPU is capable of to help choose the right opti app.
