Hi there, having a massive Problem with my 2 GPUs.

First is a HD4850 (AMD) which moved in 2 weeks ago, second is a 8600GTS (NV), my old card.

Problems:
1.) Since the AMD is set a major GPU, the NV produces lots of "error while computing" WUs. Before this was never a problem!
2.) The AMD is not recognized by any project (or may be even BOINC). Is it not supported? Thought the AMD is supporting 2-precision ...
3.) Some guys at milkyway-project told me something about a cc_config.xml. Created it using Notepad++ but no change.
Read more about this here.

Anyone able to help me getting these to cards working together or even the AMD working only?

Regards

See also this thread at the BOINC dev message boards.

And (other than Zydor wrote in point 5) the cc_config.xml file does not belong in the MilkyWay Directory but in the BOINC data directory (where the client_state.xml file resides). If it's read successfully, you'll see "Config:" messages in the Messages tab (or window in 6.12).

Gundolf

Got the HD4850 being recognized! Problem was the Catalyst 11.3. Using 10.9 and .... voila .... its being recognized ...

So lets try to get the 8600 GTS running without having the lastest problem of "error while computing".

Thank you so far

Could just be that the 2 Cards are just Incompatible trying to run them together. Or the Motherboard you have just won't accept running both sets of Video Card Drivers together.

But I suspect the main problem is that your running Windows XP Pro which if I am not mistaken you can't both Cards together ATI & NVIDIA running XP Pro, you can run one or the other but not both together. All my Box's are XP Pro SP2 64-Bit & I run a few of them with both ATI & NVIDIA Drivers installed for quick switching between them if need be but I only run 1 Brand of Card at a time as I know the 2 different Brands will not run together with XP Pro or at least that's what I've been lead to believe anyway.

If you want to run both together you probably will have to Upgrade your OS to either Vista or Win 7, I'd go with Win 7 if your going to do that as it's a much better OS than Vista.

PS: I see we posted at the same time, let us know if you get them running together with BOINC, I'd be interested myself to know if it's possible ... Thanks

Well, they were running together 2 weeks ago. But I had problems with "error while computing". Now I don't get any NV driver installed ...

They may run together but will they run BOINC together that is question. For 1 thing your going to have a conflict in GPU Speeds, that's where your probably getting your error's from ?

The mainproblem NOW is, that after I got the 4850 working, I restarted the system.
After that the AMD-driver 11.3 did not want work. But after installation it said the instalation WAS successful.
At the point where the Win accountmanager comes up thar screen goes black and thats it.
1000 resets, 1000 times everythings normal 'til the accountmanager comes up.

Now working with the NV-card but without driver cause the NV driver does not want to get installed, too!
Installation starts, but schortly after I do a click on "proceed" when choosig what to install ... "installation not successful"!

What's up with this damn machine!?

Hopefully

Edit:
driversweeper did it's work to sweep als AMD-display-drivers well and did finish it.
With the NV driver it did not!

I don't think it's the machine

Did you read the thread I linked to in my previous post? There are others about your problem on that board and at the SETI boards.

I don't have any (crunching) graphic devices, but from reading the message boards, I know that you have to reboot often (after uninstalling, after driver sweeping, after (re)installing each driver...). And the success also seems to depend on the order of driver installation. Sadly, I don't recall which one to install first, but as I said, there are plenty of threads on the BOINC and SETI boards (try an advanced forum search for "nvidia ati driver&quot.

Vielen Dank trotzdem

Gruß und frohe Ostern
Regards and happy easter
