I'm running 3 computers, all with Linux Ubuntu. All same (latest) version. I installed BOINC on all of them using Ubuntu's "software manager", and two of them "just work" - right after installing, I could connect to BAM! and just work.
On the third though, after installing, I ran BOINC Manager for the first time, and got the usual "Add project or account manager" window... I selected "Use account manager", but on the next window, the list was empty. There was no manager to choose. If I entered manually "www.boincstats.coom" on the url field, it says "The account manager is temporarily unavailable".

If I try to choose "Add project" instead of "use account manager", it's the same: there are no project on the list, just a blank window.

Networking is working on the computer, and there are no differences with the other two computers - i.e. no antivirus or different firewall settings.

I tried uninstalling/purging and reinstalling, with no change.

Does anyone know what's happening and how can I fix it?

Thanks,
Cristian

what's the contents of /var/lib/boinc-client/all_projects_list.xml ? This contains the lookup info. Compare the contents and the properties to your other machines.

The BOINC server is currently down. Maybe that's the reason for the empty lists.

Did you try "http://bam.boincstats.com/" too? (without the quotation marks)

@Trog Dog: that file exists but is blank, totally empty.

@Gundolf: the "coom" was just a typo here ! I just tried with "bam" instead of "www" and I was able to connect. It recognised my account and is now downloading work units, so it seems to work right. I still think it's strange that the lists are blank - even now, if I try to manually add another project, the list is blank. But thanks, at least the computer can do some work now!

And I still think it's because the boinc.berkeley.edu sever is down (as I said earlier ). I believe the BOINC client downloads those lists from there.

Ops... Sorry, I had only seen the second part of your message! My fault. At least I got the most important part!

Hi,
No, everything is normal now. It appears it really was a server problem. I was confused because in the course of a few hours I had installed 3 clients, and the server went offline just when I installed the last one, that's why I suspected a local problem...

Thanks again,
Cristian
